Ruby Chan has joined the Needham, Mass.-based Provider Insurance Co. as director of Internet marketing.

Chan has worked for Hewlett Packard and was one of the founding members of the Alta Vista search engine. She moved on to Staples.com launch and then joined Gillette.

Most recently, she brought her 13 years of Internet and marketing experience to Direct Federal, which is headquartered in Needham.

The Provider Insurance Group is an independent insurance agency with offices in Needham, Brookline and Belmont, Mass., and Woonsocket, R.I.

The Professional Insurance Agents of New Jersey Inc. named Louis Beckerman with the Professional Agent of the Year award.

He has earned the respect and trust from his colleagues and customers that he truly deserves,” said Jack Lynn, president of PIANJ. Beckerman is president of Beckerman & Co., in Colonia, N.J. A PIANJ member since 1976, Beckerman served as president of the association in 2004-2005, vice president in 2003-2004, secretary/treasurer in 2002-2003 and secretary in 2001-2002. Currently, he is a member of PIANJ’s Nominations and Government Affairs Committees. Beckerman also is a member of the Broker Compensation Task Force and the Anti-Fraud/Workers’ Compensation Task Force.

The Chubb Corp. has made four executives appointments:

John J. Degnan has been named vice chairman and chief operating officer. Degnan, a former attorney general of New Jersey who joined Chubb nearly 18 years ago, was previously vice chairman and chief administrative officer.

Paul J. Krump has been named executive vice president and chief underwriting officer, responsible for Chubb Commercial Insurance, Chubb Personal Insurance, Chubb Specialty Insurance and Surety. Krump, who joined Chubb 25 years ago, previously headed Chubb Commercial Insurance.

Harold L. Morrison Jr., a 23-year Chubb veteran, has been named executive vice president and chief global field officer, in charge of the company’s U.S. and international field operations, comprised of 120 offices in 28 countries. Morrison was previously in charge of U.S. field operations.

Dino E. Robusto has been named executive vice president and chief administrative officer, in charge of claims, information technology, human resources, communications, administrative services and external affairs. Robusto joined Chubb 21 years ago and most recently headed the company’s worldwide claims operations.

The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America named Robert Gordon senior vice president of policy development and research.

Gordon most recently served as the parliamentarian, senior counsel, ethics compliance officer for the Committee on Financial Services in the U.S. House of Representatives. Gordon provided strategic counsel on the Non-admitted and Reinsurance Reform Act, the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act, the State Modernization and Regulatory Transparency Act, and the Risk Retention Act. In addition, he has contributed to policy issues such as data security, privacy, liability reform, and the Fair Credit Reporting Act amendments.

Aon Risk Services hired Christopher Scontras as senior vice president in the firm’s New England office. Scontras will work on client development and fulfillment opportunities in risk management, insurance brokerage and consulting services, particularly supporting clients with enterprise risk management needs and those in the energy sector.

Scontras brings to Aon 27 years of experience in risk management and insurance consulting, sales and client service. He joins Aon from Bank of America in Boston, where as a senior vice president in the Banc of America Corporate Insurance Agency. Prior to Bank of America, Scontras was New England Area president of Arthur J. Gallagher. He also held several roles with Marsh.

Willis Group Holdings Ltd. appointed Gerry McCarthy senior vice president, and regional director of construction and real estate claim teams of Willis of New York Inc. McCarthy’s responsibilities include developing risk-transfer and claim resolution strategies.

He brings more than 20 years of experience with him to the position. He used to be senior vice president at the construction risk brokerage, Allied North America, where he managed the claims department. Before that, he was co-managing attorney of the construction practice group at Jones Hirsch Connors & Bull, P.C., an insurance defense litigation firm in New York.

Carole Fleischman has joined Red Bank, N.J.-based Phoenix Underwriting Managers as president of its managed insurance programs division.

Fleischman most recently served as senior vice president for Glendale, Calif.-based Stewart Smith West. She has also served as managing vice president of Alexander Howden North America in Pasadena, and spent seven years with Industrial Underwriters. Additional experience includes Western Employers Insurance, Hartford Insurance Co., General Accident Group and CNA Insurance.

Joining Fleischman is Aleck Roberts, who will serve as executive vice president of the managed insurance programs division. Before joining Fleischman in 2004, Roberts was senior vice president with Commonwealth Risk Services for 13 years, responsible for marketing Legion Insurance Co. products either as specialty insurance programs or as alternative risk financing products to standard large market insureds. Prior to moving to the United States, Roberts worked as a chartered accountant in Canada and then Bermuda.
