ProMutual ProMutual Group has promoted José R. “Joe” Zorola to vice president of underwriting. Zorola previously served as director of underwriting for the Boston-based medical liability insurer. In this new capacity, Zorola will continue to oversee the department and will assume responsibility for actuarial and product development functions, as well as execution of strategic initiatives and for achieving the company’s underwriting goals. Zorola joined the company in 1986 when it was still the Medical Malpractice Joint Underwriting Association of Massachusetts. For a brief period of time, Zorola joined PHICO Group as the underwriting manager for the Dallas, Texas, regional office before returning to ProMutual Group as a senior manager and then as director of underwriting. He succeeds Gregg L. Hanson, now the company’s chief operating officer.

Mark McCrary has been promoted to regional vice president of Glatfelter Public Practice (GPP), East Region, which is part of insurance brokerage Glatfelter Insurance Group. McCrary is a seasoned insurance executive with MGA experience for public entities, including marketing and business development. Most recently, he was a territorial sales manager for York, Pennsylvania-based GPP. He has also worked on the carrier side in business development across multiple product lines, and brings a number of agency and company relationships to GPP on a regional and national level. In this new role, McCrary will have responsibility for managing GPP East sales and marketing activities, working to expand marketing and inter-program relationships within GPP and Glatfelter Insurance Group.

Rogers & Gray Insurance Agency Inc. has appointed David B. Gomes as its new chief financial officer and treasurer. Gomes joined the Massachusetts agency on June 1, bringing with him more than 20 years experience in the financial, manufacturing and bio medical industries. He now oversees both the Finance and the Information Technology departments at Rogers & Gray and works from the South Dennis headquarters of the agency.

Wells Fargo Insurance Services has named James Voltz managing director for its Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania office. In his new role, Voltz will oversee operations, carrier relationships, sales and placement of all commercial and private risk practices. While working closely with insurance carriers, Voltz will ensure that field offices have the necessary tools to promote sales growth, as well as assist producers with new and renewal business. Voltz is a 30-year veteran industry veteran. Prior to joining Wells Fargo Insurance Services, he was a national brokerage placement leader with Marsh focusing on middle-market accounts.

Daniel J. McGarvey has been named chief financial officer and vice president of finance for The MEMIC Group. The 17-year veteran of the insurance industry, replaces Robert S. McMann who has retired after more than 16 years with the Portland, Maine-based workers’ comp insurer. Since 1995, McGarvey worked for Associated Industries Insurance Services, Inc., a workers’ compensation insurer based in Florida, becoming executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer. In that role, he was responsible for all financial operations of the company. He also helped lead the company’s acquisition by AmTrust Financial Services, a multinational property and casualty insurer, based in New York.

Joseph P. Hudson has been named vice president of William Gallagher Associates’ (WGA) Princeton, New Jersey office. Hudson has been in the insurance industry for 10 years, most recently worked at Arthur J. Gallagher in Philadelphia, where he specialized in healthcare, particularly in medical malpractice. He will focus on developing relationships and serving clients’ risk management needs within the healthcare industry for WGA. Prior to his insurance career, Hudson was a pitcher in the Boston Red Sox organization for seven years, pitching in the majors during the mid-1990s in over 100 games for the club.

Massachusetts-based Arbella Insurance Group has named Eileen Currie vice president of commercial lines. She joins Arbella from Crum & Forster Insurance Co., where she held the position of chief marketing officer and senior vice president of field operations. She has also held positions with CIGNA and Hartford Steam Boiler.

Boston-based risk management firm Karen Clark & Co. has named John Tierney as senior vice president. He joins the firm’s consulting practice to provide clients with an integrated approach to assessing, pricing, and managing catastrophe risks with the aim of improving operational performance and enhancing profitability. Tierney brings over 35 years of management, actuarial and underwriting experience in the property and casualty industry. He has previously served as a consultant with Tillinghast-Towers Perrin, and has also held executive positions with Bunker Hill Insurance Co. and Allmerica Property and Casualty Cos.

Northeast personal lines insurer Plymouth Rock Assurance Corp. reported that Chris Olie will assume the role of president, a position currently held by Hal Belodoff. Belodoff will become chairman of Plymouth Rock Assurance Corp. and will continue his role as the president of the Plymouth Rock Co. Jim Stone, the company’s founder, will continue in his role as CEO of the Plymouth Rock Group of Cos.
