Crump Insurance Services Inc. has invested in new talent for its Atlanta brokerage location. Terry Sherwin has joined Crump as the Atlanta office leader; and property brokers Alex Duran, Jordan Yoss and Carl Feldhaus have joined the Atlanta property team.

Sherwin comes to Crump from Colemont Insurance Brokers where he served as vice president and broker in the Atlanta office for 11 years. Prior to Colemont he was an agency owner in Haddonfield, N.J. for 15 years. As office leader, Sherwin is responsible for managing all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the office, including working with clients and carrier partners.

Duran joins Crump as senior vice president – broker. He previously worked with Swett & Crawford and as a commercial property underwriter for Liberty Mutual. He comes to Crump from All Risks where he worked with large commercial and municipal accounts.

Yoss, senior property broker, comes to Crump from All Risks’ property team where he focused on placement of large shared and layered property programs. Previously, Jordan worked with FM Global as a property underwriter and in loss control.

Feldhaus, property broker, joins Crump from All Risks where he specialized in large property placements. Prior to All Risks, he served as an associate underwriter in Zurich North America’s Global Corporate Property division. Crump Insurance Services, Inc. is part of Crump Group, the nation’s largest insurance wholesaler.

American E&S Insurance Brokers has appointed Bob Grimaldi as the newest broker in its Atlanta branch. Reporting to Branch Manager Jud Hobby, Grimaldi will focus on property coverages with a specialty in layered coastal placements. Grimaldi comes to AES most recently from Worldwide Facilities, where he was a senior property broker. Prior to that, he was with CRC in Atlanta as a large lines senior property broker.

XL Insurance appointed Gary S. Kaplan to the newly created position of executive vice president and North America Construction leader. Kaplan, who will be based in New York, joins XL Insurance from Zurich North America Commercial where he served as president of its Construction business unit. During his 15-year tenure with Zurich North America, he held several senior level positions in underwriting management, operational transformation, and strategic planning. His industry experience also includes energy, oil and chemical industry underwriting management positions with The Home Insurance Co. and Industrial Risk Insurers.

The Atlanta chapter of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) recently installed its new officers and directors for 2010-2011. The officers are: President Robert Stevens, Crawford & Co., assistant vice president of operations; President-Elect Rodney Parker, Catlin; Secretary Sharon Ware, State Farm Insurance Group; and Treasurer Jean Muller, CRC Insurance Services. The past president is Barbara Williams, Pritchard & Jerden. The chapter director are: John Matthews: Aon Corp.; Jay Siegel, Allianz Global; Linda Kuryloski, Edward Jones; Rodney Wilson, State Farm Insurance Group; Marty Murphy, ME Murphy Consultants and David Skolsky, Insurance Analysts & Consultants.

Thomas J. Slattery, a longtime editor and journalist for the insurance industry, passed away recently at the age of 68 due to complications of respiratory failure.

Slattery entered the insurance industry with The National Underwriter Co. as a staff writer in 1967, according to the publishing company. He later served as the managing editor and eventually as the editor-in-chief of both the property/casualty and life/health publications of The National Underwriter.

After he left The National Underwriter Co. in 2001, Slattery served as the managing director of Slattery-Esterkamp Communications in Baldwin, N.Y., where he spent about five years working with Insurance Journal magazine as an editor and consultant.

Slattery’s family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in honor of Slattery to the American Cancer Society.
