Therese M. Vaughan has stepped down earlier than previously announced from her post as chief executive officer of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). In August, she announced plans for transitioning out of the job in early 2013, but decided to accelerate her departure to the end of November.

The NAIC is conducting a national search for a new CEO and has retained the services of an executive search firm, Egon Zehnder International.

The NAIC Executive Committee has named Andrew Beal as acting CEO following the departure of Vaughan. Beal has been with the NAIC for 13 years and currently serves as the chief operating officer and chief legal officer.

Vaughan has served as NAIC CEO since 2009.

Edgewood Partners Insurance Center named Dolores Glass as a principal in their San Ramon, Calif., construction practice.

Glass will be responsible for expanding EPIC’s business with contractors and others in construction. Additionally, she will design, place and manage insurance and risk management programs, lead a client services team and focus on growing her own book of business.

Glass has 20-plus years of experience in construction industry risk management and property and casualty insurance. Prior to EPIC, Glass was with Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. in San Francisco as area vice president of the company’s construction services group. Before that she worked for Calco Insurance Brokers and Agents as a senior account manager.

Commercial insurance specialist Rick Sottile has joined Portland, Ore.-based Elliott, Powell, Baden & Baker Insurance.

Sottile has nearly 35 years’ experience insuring technology, manufacturing, distribution and aviation risks.

Elliott, Powell, Baden & Baker has specialized programs in petroleum distributors, biodiesel, agribusinesses, restaurants, tecnology, service stations and convenience stores, non-profits, wholesalers, retailers and contractors.

Worldwide Facilities Inc. named Chris Scheetz to its San Francisco, Calif., office as a property broker.

Scheetz will assist in expanding the property footprint for Worldwide Facilities’ San Francisco office. His responsibilities include new business production, marketing calls and cross selling.

Scheetz has more than 25 years’ experience. Before Worldwide Facilities Scheetz was with Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. More recently he was a property underwriter for Beazley.

Los Angeles-based Worldwide Facilities has other California offices in San Francisco and Irvine, as well as Seattle, Wash., Phoenix, Ariz., Chicago, Ill., St. Louis, Mo., New York, N.Y., and Atlanta, Ga.

San Diego, Calif.-based Arrowhead Wholesale Insurance Services named Jose Cruz Jr. an account executive of workers’ compensation.

Cruz, who will be headquartered in San Diego, will be responsible for brokering workers’ comp placements for retail agents as well as agency development for Arrowhead.

He has more than seven years of workers’ compensation experience as a marketing representative for a large workers’ comp carrier, a retail agent and most recently was an underwriter for several workers’ comp programs.

The Leavitt Group named Eric Shaw to its Sacramento, Calif., office.

Shaw will focus on risk management for health care clients and workers compensation coverage.

Shaw has 10 years of experience in the industry. He most recently worked for Zurich Insurance in claims handling. The Leavitt Group’s Bay Area, Sacramento and San Jose offices are part of the Jenkins Insurance Services agency.
