Connecticut Names New Insurance Commissioner

Susan Cogswell has been named insurance commissioner of Connecticut by Gov. John G. Rowland. Cogswell previously served as interim commissioner. Before that, she served as chief of staff to former commissioner George M. Reider Jr. in the Connecticut Insurance Department.

“In a state where the insurance industry plays a key role in the economy, the handling of financial services modernization at the state level will be very important. In order to stay in the forefront of the financial services industry, it’s important that Connecticut laws and regulations are uniform with the federal financial services modernization act,” said Suzanne Bump, American Insurance Association assistant vice president, northeast region. “Commissioner Cogswell’s experience should be beneficial on this issue.”

Prior to working at the department of insurance, Cogswell worked at the executive level for Travelers Indemnity Co. and Chase Manhattan Bank.
