The Connecticut Insurance Department will be hosting its second annual Insurance Fraud Summit on Nov. 21, 2000 in Hartford, Conn. The summit will be a day-long event featuring state and national experts, including Howard Goldblatt, director of government affairs for the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud; Robert Ober with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners; Joseph Cohen, director of the Insurance Fraud Bureau for Kentucky and chairman of the NAIC anti-fraud task force; and William Mahon, executive director of the National Health Care Anti-fraud Association. Connecticut Insurance Commissioner Susan F. Cogswell will also speak at the event.
“Insurance fraud abuse in Connecticut and nationwide is an overwhelming problem,” said Connecticut Deputy Commissioner Edward Krawiecki…”In Connecticut it is estimated that approximately $1.9 billion in excess insurance premiums and taxes are paid out because of fraud.”
