A federal grand jury ended a two-year investigation into the activities of political consultant Michael A. Solomon by handing down a 25 count indictment for mail fraud, alleging that he used his privileged position to funnel insurance commissions into dummy companies.
A report in the Allentown Morning Call revealed that Solomon, 37, received over $260,000 in insurance commissions on newly written policies for Northampton County. Two contracts involved commission payments of $48,362 and $56,245 on county property/casualty policies written by St. Paul Insurance.
He’s also charged with using his influence while he served on the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp. to assure the awarding of a computer contract to another company he established.
Also named in the indictment on one count of mail fraud was Gary Chromiak, 43, who served as a broker for the county insurance contracts. He’s alleged to have received a cut of the commissions appropriated by Solomon.
