April 3, 2002

As part of its program of conducting forums around the state to assess the impact of Sept. 11 on the insurance marketplace, the New York State Insurance Department announced that its next forum is scheduled for Friday, April 12th in Rochester.

The meeting will take place at the University of Rochester, Hospital Medical Center, 2nd Floor, Medical Center Board Room, 601 Elmwood Avenue Rochester between 2:00 and 3:30 PM.

The forum is open to the public. The NYSID program had focused on the availability and adequacy of coverage to homeowners, small businesses and large commercial risks. It’s “especially interested in the views of consumers, business owners, insurance agents and brokers, and those who are actively involved in purchasing or procuring insurance coverages for small businesses.”

The NYSID noted that attendance at the conference should be confirmed by calling Ellen Wenz at 212-480-5262 in New York City by April 10, 2002.

“Individuals who want to give oral testimony must confirm attendance. Oral testimony will be allowed up to 5 minutes. Written submissions may be made at the forum. The Department encourages submission of written testimony to be added to the official record,” said the bulletin.

It also indicated that written testimony should include, but not be limited to, the following topics:
–The availability of coverage, including the adequacy of coverages and coverage limits;
— Use of exclusions or other provisions limiting coverages or risk transfer;
— Changes and adjustments in premiums on insurance policies;
— and The role of reinsurance in current market dynamics
