Aon Leases New Space in Manhattan

Aon Corporation announced the completion of negotiations to secure new permanent office facilities in New York City.

On Aug. 28, 2002 Aon reached an agreement with Resnick Seaport, LLC of New York to lease approximately 165,000 square feet of space at 199 Water Street in downtown Manhattan.

On July 24, Aon signed a lease for 270,000 square feet of office space at 55 E. 52nd St., now known as Park Avenue Plaza. The 44-story Park Plaza tower, located between Park and Madison streets, will also be known as the Aon Center. Approximately 800 Aon employees will be located at the 55 E. 52nd location, while about 600 will work at Water Street.

“We’re pleased to be in a position to fulfill the promise we made to New York last year and renew our commitment to Manhattan,” said Aon chairman and CEO Patrick Ryan.

Since the middle of September, 2001, about half of Aon’s New York workers displaced as a result of last year’s destruction of the World Trade Center had been working at 685 Third Avenue in midtown and the Regus Business Center at 245 Park Ave. Others had been housed in office locations throughout greater New York as well as in New Jersey and Connecticut.

Aon plans to move its employees from their current locations to their new office space in phases beginning in early September.

Aon lost 175 employees when the Trade Center Towers were destroyed last Sept. 11. The company had occupied floors 92 and 98-105 in the south tower.
