A fourth safety workshop conducted by the National Association of Independent Insurers (NAII) and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be offered to small business owners and manager Oct. 22 in Mars, Pa.
The session, “Safety at Work IV: Risk Management Techniques for Small Businesses,” will be held at the Four Points Sheraton, 910 Sheraton Drive, in Mars from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This is one of a series of presentations that OSHA and the insurance industry have held in Pennsylvania and other states.
“These joint ‘Safety at Work’ programs by OSHA and the insurance industry have been very well received by small business participants seeking to improve their bottom line by equipping themselves with solid safety information,” said Arlene Ryndak, manager of loss control for NAII. “This collaborative effort shows that both groups are committed to improving the safety and health of America’s workers and that there certainly are ways that both groups can work together to make a difference.”
In response to comments by participants in previous workshops, the upcoming session will focus on machine guarding, lockout-tagout and workers’ compensation fraud, Ryndak said. She stressed that small businesses would benefit from the workshop even if they have not had representatives at previous sessions.
These workshops, presented jointly by OSHA and a number of insurance companies, are free and open to the public. They are geared toward the small business owner or manager that has fewer than 100 employees or a company that does not have a full-time safety professional or risk manager.
The workshops provide a framework for small businesses to develop a culture where all members of the organization actively manage workplace safety and health. They include an explanation of free assistance available from OSHA, OSHA Consultation and the insurance industry.
