AIA Names Northeast VP, Lauds New Vt. Commissioner

The American Insurance Association (AIA) announced the appointment of a new assistant vice president, northeast region and welcomed the commissioner-designate of the the Vermont Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities and Health Care Administration.

The association named Gary Henning as assistant vice president, northeast region. Henning will be based in AIA’s Albany, New York office, where he will handle legislative and regulatory issues in the seven-state northeast region, which includes New York and the six New England states. Prior to joining AIA, Henning was vice president for Barrett Associates, an Albany government relations firm. In that capacity he represented several insurance industry interests, including the Independent Insurance Agents Association of New York.

The AIA also announced that it looks forward to working with John Crowley, Vermont’s commissioner-designate. “We will work with the new commissioner to meet the challenges of the current insurance market, which include terrorism coverage, asbestos claims, mold claims and regulatory reform,” said Paul Moran, AIA vice president, northeast region.

Crowley, a former state senator, was appointed by Governor-elect James Douglas.
