The Professional Insurance Agents of Connecticut announced that Representative Lenny Winkler will receive its “Legislator of the Year” award at this year’s PIACT convention, March 18-19, at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket.

“Rep. Winkler will receive the PIACT Legislator of the Year award, in recognition of her service in the General Assembly and for the efforts she has taken for the insurance industry,” said the bulletin. She has played “an instrumental role in addressing many of the key issues facing Connecticut and its residents as the state representative from Groton’s 41st District.”

“Representative Winkler has long been a consumer advocate as well as a friend of insurance agents in Connecticut,” stated PIACT President James Pascarella, CPCU. “Her accomplishments as a legislator and strong relationship with PIACT have gone far toward enacting customer-friendly legislation. We are honored to be able to bestow her with the title of PIACT Legislator of the Year.”

The announcement noted that its honoree was first elected to the House of Representatives in a special election in 1988, and was most recently re-elected in November 2002. She serves in the leadership of the General Assembly as an Assistant House Minority Leader and the Ranking House Member of the Bonding Subcommittee of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, which has cognizance over state spending. She also serves on the Judiciary Committee and the Public Health Committee.
