MD Commissioner Steven Larsen Joining Law Firm’s Baltimore Office

The Philadelphia-based law firm, Saul Ewing LLP, announced that Maryland’s soon to be former Insurance Commissioner, Steven B. Larsen, will join its Baltimore office as a partner in its Insurance practice group.

Larsen, who officially leaves office tomorrow, has received high praise from all quarters, especially consumer groups, for his work as Maryland’s Insurance Commissioner since 1997.

The announcement indicated that he becomes “the third state insurance commissioner to join Saul Ewing ranks. Constance B. Foster, Insurance Commissioner for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from January 1987-March 1992, is resident in Saul Ewing’s Harrisburg, PA office, and Linda Kaiser, Insurance Commissioner for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 1995-1997, is resident in Saul Ewing’s Philadelphia office.”

The firm’s insurance practice is “a nationally known force in the industry,” stated managing partner Stephen S. Aichele, “Steve Larsen represents a major expansion of that practice. He is experienced in sophisticated business transactions dealing with high level public policy surrounding non-profits in general and the “Blues” in particular. Additionally, Steve has been a major player in insurance issues at the federal level. As regulation shifts from a state regulated platform to a national one, Steve is the natural ‘point person’ for federal insurance issues. We are thrilled to have him on board.”

The announcement indicated Larsen would concentrate his practice in “insurance, healthcare, business and government relations.”
