PIACT to Host “Education Expo”

The Professional Insurance Agents of Connecticut Inc. will host its annual Education Expo on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, starting at 9 a.m. at the Ramada Inn in Plainville, Conn.

The Expo serves “as a meeting place for independent insurance producers to learn of the latest industry trends, network with colleagues and attend valuable continuing education classes,” said the announcement.

“Compact education events such as the EdExpo give our members what they want—targeted CE courses, at a convenient time at an accessible location,” stated Michael Keating, CIC, education chair and director of PIACT. “This one-day event offers insurance producers the opportunity to attend up to three continuing education courses to help them fulfil their CE requirements.”

Attendees will also be able to learn more about one of the industry’s most serious ongoing concerns-fraud. EdExpo will feature “a panel discussion on insurance fraud, which will explore the seriousness of the crime; its impact on the insurance industry; and the various ways the Connecticut Insurance Department, insurance carriers, law enforcement, independent agencies and the general public can assist in the identification, reduction and prevention of insurance fraud.

“Panelists include: John Albanese, detective, Connecticut State Police Auto Theft Unit; Curt Pearsall, vice president of special programs, Utica National Insurance Group; Richard Owens, program manager of the Fraud Unit, Connecticut Insurance Department; and Chris Batten, special investigations unit, The Hartford.”

Additional education topics include:
— Employment Related Practices Liability
— Annuities
— Workers’ Comp & Employers Liability Insurance
