N.J.’s Borden Perlman Celebrates 7th Merger Year

New Jersey’s Borden Perlman agency recently celebrated the seventh anniversary of their successful merger, completed in 1996.

The firm has offices in Lawrenceville and Trenton specializing in a broad range of P/C insurance. W.S. Borden Co, founded in 1924, and Perlman Insurance, founded in 1915, are two of Mercer County’s longest established insurance agencies.

“We are a family run company and are extremely proud of the whole team,” stated Dick Perlman, who’s celebrating his 44th year in the business. He noted that, “along with our seven year merger we also celebrate other significant milestones. Sandra DeBoskey has been with the firm for 35 years, Julie DiSanto 25 years, Doug Borden 20 years, Jeff Perlman 17 years and Betsy Messinger 13 years.”

Doug Borden, an agency Principal, commented, “In the past seven years our company has grown from 11 employees to 24. We are a third generation, family owned and operated agency and our founding principle is that we do not work for an insurance company we work for our clients.”

Agency Principal Jeff Perlman observed, “Not only has our staff doubled, “but we have increased our premium volume nearly 400%. Back in 1996 we had premium volume of $8,000,000 and in 2003 we will hit the $35,000,000+ mark”.

The agency’s announcement indicated that it is licensed in 48 continental states and represents 30 “A” rated insurance companies as independent agents. “Our national coverage and long term relationships is a key factor in our growth,” commented Jeff Perlman, “but the key to growing our business has been the human factor, without our team of loyal employees we’d just be another insurance company.” We live, work, play and raise our families in our local community. We are especially proud of affiliation with local not for profits – we believe strongly in giving back to the community.”

The Principals at Borden Perlman have certainly done that. Jeff Perlman is currently a member of the Board of Trustees and Executive Committees of the College of New Jersey; Greenwood House, Home for Jewish Aged; and the Greater Mercer County Chamber of Commerce. He has also served for a number of years on ARC/Mercer’s Mansion in May Committee. Doug Borden is currently on the Board of Directors of the Rescue Mission of Trenton, and Dick Perlman has served as past President of the Board of Trustees of Mercer County Community College, Greenwood House, and the Jewish Federation Foundation.
