The issues driving the medical malpractice crisis will be among the topics addressed at the annual Ratemaking Seminar of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), March 11-12, at the Wyndham Franklin Plaza Hotel in Philadelphia, Penna.
“The seminar provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of ratemaking methods, concepts and issues. Sessions are available for insurance professionals with ratemaking knowledge levels that vary from limited to advanced,” said the bulletin. “Due to the proximity of many actuarial students to the Philadelphia area, the 2004 seminar will feature an expanded basic track. This seminar also provides an opportunity for actuaries to further their continuing education.
“A general session will feature a discussion of the current medical malpractice crisis and the underwriting cycle in general. Representatives of the medical profession, insurance industry, and the trial bar will participate in a discussion of the issues driving this crisis. The opportunity for audience participation will also be provided.”
The announcment also noted that “Over 50 different sessions will be offered, covering data management and technology, workers compensation, commercial lines, personal lines, risk and capital management, reinsurance, regulatory and specialty topics.”
The fee for the seminar is $650 for active candidates, Affiliates, Associates and Fellows of the CAS, $750 for non-CAS members and $325 for government employees, if received on or before February 25.
