PIANH Adopts “Principles of Professionalism”

March 2, 2004

The Professional Insurance Agents of New Hampshire Inc.’s board of directors announced it has adopted certain “Principles of Professionalism,” which it described as “a series of professional behaviors and standards upon which all insurance professionals should focus.”

“These are standards that PIANH believes are the hallmark of the professional insurance agent,” stated PIANH President Jeffrey Foy. “As professional agents, our members should already be following these principles. However, it is important that our clients, companies and the public understand how seriously we take our job as counselors and experts.”

Summarizing the new Principles, the PIANH bulletin said that they “affirm that a professional insurance agent:
— maintains high professional standards of conduct, integrity, responsibility and service to the insurance-buying public;
— exercises sound professional judgment in analyzing the insurance needs of each client, and in fairly recommending the best coverage possible to meet those needs;
— provides guidance in the understanding of insurance-related issues, and in the creation of loss-prevention programs to ensure the overall safety of agency clients and others;
— endeavors at all times to work in a trustworthy, efficient, cooperative and communicative fashion with represented carriers;
— continually works to upgrade and enhance the professional expertise of all agency personnel through ongoing insurance-related education; and
— gives back to the community and industry in whatever manner possible.

PIANH will issue a formal document outlining the Principles of Professionalism, suitable for framing, to each of its members, which can “be displayed at our members’ offices so their clients can see the standards and integrity with which a professional independent agent does business,” Foy concluded.
