IIABNJ YAC Hosts “Day in Trenton”

March 8, 2004

For the first time in its history, the Young Agents Council (YAC) of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New Jersey (IIABNJ) hosted a “Day in Trenton” on Thursday, March 4, 2004.

The day was spent meeting with legislators and touring the Capitol, in an effort to learn more about the legislative and regulatory process, and to help them become active participants in various association government affairs activities.

The IIABNJ’s bulletin noted that “The Young Agents observed an Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee meeting, followed by a luncheon with several industry representatives, including the president of the Insurance Council of New Jersey, Magdalena Padilla, Esq., who spoke about the importance of the industry working together; and David A. Smith of Princeton Public Affairs Group, who discussed the regulatory and legislative process and the current political climate. Senator Joseph M. Kyrillos, Jr., (R-13) also addressed the group and commended independent agents for their efforts on the front line with consumers.”

The day was such a success that the YAC hopes to make it an annual event. YAC Chairperson Ann Havran commented, “This day was very informative. It sparked an interest in many of our young agents and educated them on the way our industry voice can impact the government and regulatory agencies to shape legislation.”
