Harleysville Announces Field Office Changes

Harleysville Insurance of Harleysville, Pa., recently announced new appointments in three field offices serving independent agents and policyholders in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions. The appointments include:

— Michael L. Happe, resident vice president of Harleysville Insurance
Company, a subsidiary headquartered in Edina, Minn.
— John J. Iannello, resident vice president of Harleysville’s New
Jersey branch office, in Moorestown, N.J.
— Robert R. Southard Jr., resident vice president of the company’s
Chesapeake branch office, in Owings Mills, Md.

Happe joined Harleysville after serving the last five years as vice president of member services for the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC). Prior to his time at NAMIC, he was with the St. Paul Companies, serving as corporate marketing director, corporate claims manager and regional underwriting/operations manager. In his new position, he oversees Harleysville’s property/casualty insurance subsidiary serving Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Iannello started with Harleysville in 1993 as underwriting manager of the New Jersey office and was promoted to commercial lines underwriting regional manager in 2002. In his new role, he is responsible for overseeing all property/casualty operations throughout the state of New Jersey.

Southard joined Harleysville after serving the last five years as assistant vice president of the St. Paul Companies’ Florida operations and a countrywide program for middle market commercial accounts. Prior to that, he was sales and marketing director and business development manager with the same operation. He also spent 18 years with USF&G, serving as a branch vice president, general manager, commercial lines manager and casualty superintendent. In his new position, he oversees Harleysville’s property/casualty insurance operations in Delaware and Maryland.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and has earned the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designations.
