As usual, Schumer will never miss an opportunity to have his name in the press.
According to this report, auto fraud increases the average NY auto insurance premium by $60 per vehicle. Let’s be real-both insurance companies and the politicians have a field-day playing with the “numbers.”
Yes, insurance fraud is a wide spread
problem in NY. However, the reason New Yorkers are paying such high premiums is mostly due to the habits of the insurance carriers–bad investments, bad underwriting guidelines, and bad claim habits.
A relative on mine pays over $2K to Geico for a standard auto policy, and she has only one moving violation and no ax (liability only).
Don’t get me wrong–I do not support or encourage fraud. I am only saying let’s look at the real issues concering New York’s high auto premium. I doubt the average New Yorker is having difficulty sleeping over the fact that they may be losing $60 per year!
Schumer is all about politics. Fraud is the excuse used by carriers to pad the “numbers” and used by politicians to get re-elected and elected to a higher office.
WE NEED TO AUDIT THE INSURANCE CARRIER’S AND GET TO THE REAL ISSUE AS TO WHY WE PAY THE 2ND HIGHEST ANNUAL PREMIUM IN THE COUNTRY.

What about the people who live in New York, and have out of state plates, like VA or Fla. That’s insurance fraud. I pay $432.00 amonth for 2 cars, have good driving record, gone to defensive classes, but I pay, while these cheats who live across the street from me probable pay nothing or very little. Who do you report them too?

We should prosecute people who assist fraudulent acts, but not hurt good lawyers and doctors who try to help people they reallt believe are victims and need help.

No-fault insurance is blamed for widespread car insurance fraud in Florida that has caused some insurers to reduce their business there.

Up to 100,000 people could be driving round with invalid motor insurance because they bought their policies through illegal insurance advisers known as ‘ghost brokers’
Most of these fraudulent brokers are hidden behind third party insurance companies as I have read in this article :http://bitl.li/KfeON, they can engineer lower quotes from insurers by giving false information, such as increasing the age of the driver or failing to input previous claims and convictions.
