This is typical of Tom Reilly’s office. He is uninformed and grandstanding to bolster future political aspirations, using consumer protection as an excuse. His office has no idea how much time, effort and value a professional agent, whether independent or captive, brings to all insurance transations. His office has not performed the most basic reasearch to substantiate there comments.

The true tragedy is that the “independent agents” in this state and our association supported Mr. Reilly’s appointment as Attorney General based upon promises he made. It is obvious those promises have been broken.

If Mr. Reilly’s political goal is to become Governor of our Commonwealth, then we as a group and our association should do all that is possible to prevent a politician of this character from obtaining his goal.

Why do 86% of consumers purchase auto insurance from independent agents in MA? Because 14% feel comfortable that direct writers and our public servants will adequately provide for their insurance needs.
