Nice title — it has a certain Maoist ring to it, doesn’t it?

The Maryland Department of Insurance already has jurisdiction over rate increases put forth by licensed insurers. What does Commissioner Redmer think about this new office?

Who will appoint this new officer? The (Democrtat-controled) Senate? If so then it seems to me that is a Separation of Powers issue, which maybe should involve some judicial review.

On a related matter, our legistlators have passed what amounts to a Price Control on an insurer that operates within a relatively free market, particularly in its acquisition of Reinsurance. Some sage folk with an understanding of Economics have suggested this is the beginning of the end for Medical Mutual. The doctors need to consider what they would do if MedMu goes belly up. Who will insure their Prior Acts then? The people of the State of Maryland?
