Liberty Mutual Expanding N.H. Operation

March 11, 2005

Liberty Mutual has announced a $40 million project to add 1,750 jobs as it expands its operation in the city.

The Boston-based international insurance company, announced during a planning board meeting this week it plans to erect a 300,000-square-foot building at its 220-acre corporate complex on the Spaulding Turnpike.

The expansion would more than double its Dover work force to support the company’s information technology and support services, it said.

The company said it plans to submit a formal site plan to the planning board by April 15 and break ground in August with construction to be completed by the first quarter of 2007.

The project would increase the number of workers at the complex from about 1,400 to 3,100, making the company the largest employer in the city.

Liberty Mutual also employs 1,400 people at its location in Portsmouth and 1,100 at leased facilities across the Seacoast. Worldwide, the company employs 38,000 workers.
