Start by making that horrible beauraucratic website more user friendly.

I’m curious how Conn is the capital. There are far larger markets out there.

Many companies want to leave Connecticut because the DOI’s budget was dramatically cut and companies can’t get statutorily required filings looked at in a reasonable amount of time. I would suggest taking all of the cash and resources wasted on the new development office and simply trying to hire a few people to review applications and filings at the DOI. Just a year ago, I tried to file an application to license an insurer in Conn. and the examiner laughed and informed me that they may or may not get to it within the year. Companies can’t operate that slowly when their competitors are moving faster through other jurisdictions.

Jay, Hartford used to be the capital of insurance. We had the mighty AETNA, The Travelers, The Hartford, Connecticut Mutual, Connecticut General, Phoenix Mutual, and a number of smaller carriers all within a few blocks of each other. There is virtually nothing left, and Hartford is but a shell of its former self.

You’ve got to blame an errant state government that has taxed companies out of the state; a local government that has done nothing to keep business in town except to purchase Colt Firearms; and bad press nationally about a failing school system that went out and hired a private company to run things.

It can be turned around, but not with the state legislature dominated by tax-and-spend Blue State Liberals that believe a family earning over $150,000 are “millionaires” therefore they should pay a higher income tax, and are termed the “super rich”.

Insurance King hit the nail right on the head.

When the companies can’t afford to do business, the employees can’t afford to live in the state, and the business and community infrastructures are shot to hell, all of the Development Commissions in the world won’t be able to bring the carriers back.

I’ve had several opportunities over the years to relocate to the Hartford area. Even with the salary increases and paid moving exepnses offered, it just wasn’t economicaly feasible.

It should tell the CT governor something when a business finds that the greater economies of scale and ease of doing business are found in New York City.
