Bryan Remains at N.J. Insurance Helm as Corzine Becomes Governor

New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, sworn into office in Tuesday, has yet to name several members of his cabinet, including an insurance and banking chief.

Corzine did, however, announce that Acting Banking and Insurance Commissioner Donald Bryan, formerly director of the insurance division, would stay on the job until a search is completed.

Corzine’s predecessor, Acting Governor Richard J. Codey, appointed Bryan as acting commissioner on March 1, 2005 to fill the vacancy created by Holly C. Bakke’s resignation.

Bryan has been an employee of the Department since 1982 and director of the division of insurance since 1999. This is not the first time Bryan has served as the department’s acting commissioner; he served in that role from October 2001 to February 2002.

In her resignation letter, Bakke indicated her desire to spend more time with her son and to become more involved with her community.
