I understand the desire of these individuals to want to help locate survivors and help in a time of crisis, but didn\’t they realize that breathing the smoke of burning debris was hazardous?

There is an assumption of risk issue here, regardless of the humanitarian works done.

Check out the recent documentary DUST TO DUST. Workers were assured by the city, state and FEMA that the air was safe to breathe.

then those people are really stupid for believing what the government said. I would chalk this one up to \”culling the herd\”.

I know that if I had to work in that environment, I would have asked for something to protect my breathing. I know what it\’s like to breath paint and thinner fumes. Some people want to believe that they could entrust their safety to others, and then complain when that trust was betrayed. But personally, I know enough to come it out of the rain; I feel sorry for those who are suffering but it defies logic to NOT want to protect oneself, especially at a site with the magnitude of destruction as the WTC collapse….

In an emergency we do look to our appointed government agencies for guidance, advice and truth. It\’s unfortunate that no one in our government had the foresight to save some of the billions donated by other Americans towards these courageous worker\’s health care. Oklahoma survivors were not paid for their loss by homegrown terrorists and I for one would not have minded if my donations were used to ease the health problems of the workers and volunteers who responded so gallantly when needed.
