Why-this vehicle doesn\’t have any track record for added safety. The driver maybe concerned about the environment but it doesn\’t mean he is a better driver.

Secondly-allowing a single car in an HOV lane because it is a hybrid discriminates against those who own older cars & can not afford to buy a hybrid.

Lastly- It is actually not that environmental friendly. Look into the impact that getting rid of the old battery has on the environment. They are not easily recycled and the process to do so is actually more harmful to the environment than if you ran a clean, newer vehicle for the same time.

The batterys that power hybrid vehicles are not of the conventional lead/acid variety and can be recycled by the manufacturers of them. A gas/electric hybrid will save roughly 25% on fuel over it\’s life which of course means less emissions and dependence on forign oil,so why not give new car buyer a few perks for buying one.

A discount isn\’t a perk. airbags, abs, driver training classes are safety enhancers and deserve a financial reward. What does the hybrid do w/ safety to deserve a financial break? Travelers just trying to cut rates in a round about way w/out data.

Its simply a matter of public policy. Travelers wants to establish themselves as a company that cares about the environment. Its a marketing move intended to increase market share. Whats so complicated about that? Of course there will be one or two odd balls who arent happy about it, so let them go to Geico.

Gee, maybe if I drive a hybrid and use condoms I can get a discount on both my auto and health insurance. If I wear condoms in my house, or while shopping…………..
