Why is it places like New York want to give a document to a person to show that it is legal to drive on the road when it is illegal for them to be here. If the passport is valid (which the majority of people who are here illegally won’t have) then by giving someone a U.S. based drivers license, no one is going to question that they are here legally. Using that drivers license, you can go to other states to convert to their state drivers license and the system is further messed up. This is just a bad idea from the get-go.

WOW – It must be time for me to move out of NY. My vow was , if Hilary is elected as President, I will have to move out of the country. Now I loose my state first and my country next. Hmmm… I wonder how other countires treat their illegals. I am afraid if I leave now, I will get the treatment that the illegals here derserve -as in go through the process of becoming LEGAL or GO HOME!!!!! We are making it way too easy for this country to be taken over from the inside.

This is what the Democrats want, people! You would have thought the failure of the immigration bill would have been enough of a message saying many NORMAL citizens have had enough of illegal immigration. I guess that is not the case. Welcome to New York Illegals!!!! I know I would not get the same treatment in your country!

It seems to me that it is ridiculous to give drivers’ licenses to “illegal” immigrants so that they can go to work (often times “off the books” & not paying taxes) and take their children to schools that cost American citizens a fortune to operate. If we can’t keep track of these people, shame on us! How do they register their children for the schools they attend without our government knowing where they are???? We need to go to the root of the problem and work to be sure that Americans are not responsible for the lousy living conditions in the countries of origin of these immigrants. American businessmen should not be permitted to bring their products back home to sell if they are not paying an appropirate wage and providing services (health, eduction, etc) to the people who work for them in other countries. Employer’s here should be stiffly penalized for hiring illegal immigrants & that includes the wealthy who hire them as housekeepers, nannies, and handymen in order to avoid paying more reasonable salaries to Americans for the same jobs. LET’S STOP BLAMING EVERYONE ELSE FOR OUR IMMIGRANT PROBLEMS AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT AMERICANS ARE DOING TO CREATE & PERPETUATE THE PROBLEM !!

Like this is really going to work. Part of the requirement to get the license is to have a “valid & verifiable” foriegn passport. I’m not exactly sure how you get a passport, but I believe you have to go through the federal gov’t to get one.

How can the gov’t issue “valid” passports to “illegal” immigrants.

    Deport their !!!

We need to stop being the garbage can of the world – close our borders – kick these damn people out and take care of our own!!!

Living in a Border State you see a heck of a lot more than the rest of the country…and the rest of the country is in a tailspin!!! What is wrong with these people???

Our hospitals are over run with “illegals” that have no money – no insurance – no business being here – our school system is a joke – if they don’t belong here then let them go home and get an education.

AZ immigrants were pushing to allow ILLEGALS to pay “instate” college tuition instead of out of state fees – First of all… My AMERICAN BORN is supposed to be taking up that seat at the lecture hall – not some illegal alien that doesn’t belong here in the first place – and to boot… they want to pay less ? ? ? ? Maybe they need a lesson in the ENGLISH language – I L L E G A L – means you don’t have ANY RIGHTS under our laws, our constitution or our roof – Go HOME!

Gimme a break – I’m so sick of the entire immigration thing it makes me puke

Shut the doors – close the borders – stop sending our hard earned tax dollars overseas to take care of the rest of the world and clean up our own mess…

You get your own house in order – then play Santa.. Until then get a grip!

The country needs an uprising and get ALL of these bleeding heart politicians out of office and clean house – What are we paying our taxes for???? Why is a country that is

Helen: you were doing OK except the attempt to have us regulate other countries. Nonsense… allocate your resources, and clean up things here first — you NEED that American business to prosper, or you’ll be done before you start. As for penalizing those that hire illegals — good start. Just allow the honest employers a system of verification, because some of the illegal paperwork has gotten REALLY good.

Spitzer: Eventually the voter base of this guy has to wake up. He has some good ideas, but he’s dangerous because he pretends he’s Emporer — making his own rules by edict under whatever power base he has. Imagine the exponential growth of his over-reaching the farther he goes. He is a bully. There is a great need for a counterbalance within our government to appropriately trim his wings — which is the point of our system of government.

Illegals getting licenses: Simply put, this is the emporer’s way of declaring his own law — you’d better pay serious attention to this act. Our federal government must settle this issue, and governors don’t get to play this game. If you’re an illegal, you’re an illegal… either get legal, or hide in the shadows where you belong.

Immigration: This is broken. We need a ton more people that we legally allow. We need to admit that, make the adjustment, and then RECRUIT THE BEST TALENT. Come on folks… whomever becomes a citizen will either make us a stronger or weaker team in worldwide competition. So rather than leave the gates open, and hope the right folks sneak in, we need to deport every single illegal, allow a ton more to apply, and then manage our personnel like any other business venture. Do we need masons, computer geeks, road builders, farmers, or what? If we need legalized masons, then I’m confident that we can recruit those jobs and get plenty of applicants, and we can then select the best. If a “rookie” joins our team, but gets into criminal trouble, then we “send them back down” — by deporting them.

This is a BIG problem… not a HARD problem like politicians keep pretending it is. You start with some basic planning, and eventually, you have legalized workers that you’re proud to add as citizens, and they’re thrilled to be here and not have to hide from the new country they begin to love! It just ain’t rocket science.

Elected leaders often hide their ulterior motives by acting as though they are taking the “high road” and being on the “cutting edge” of issues. They hide behind slogans like being politically correct.
What’s next, Gov. Spitzer? Do you want them all to register to vote, now that you’ve given away drivers licenses?

Here’s a definition of political correctness that fits both you and Hillary quite well:

“Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which
holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd
    by the clean end.”

Those of us Americans who pay taxes and insure our vehicles will have to pay for a licensed uninsured illegal. At least we will have a piece of mind, when a licensed illegal driver causes an accident and is uninsured, government will know where the illegal is at. Democrats have to be proud to have another socialists with a God complex in office.

Our country has lost it’s identity and now this putz wants to make things even worse. FDR would turnover in his grave at how we’ve allowed immigrants to come here with no intenion of assimilating. They dress the same as they did in the old country, speak their native tongue not English, eat the same ethnic foods, cling to the same customs, watch their native country TV via satellite, wear their native garb, and have no “skin in the game”. If Americans don’t wake us soon and start being assertive, this country will look like the bar room scene in Star Wars.

So we have our multi-cultural politicians who have lost their perspective in the United States and now we have advertisers who are continuing in stride. There really is a disregard for the true American way.
Politicians like Spitzer and Clinton look for ways to build their political base without any regard for legality. Hillary with her husband pardoning the Puerto Rican Nationals and her fundraising with Norman Hsu. Now Spitzer with giving illegals more legitimacy in the U.S. and taxpayers keep funding these ego maniacs and their schemes.

Do you know they have a surplus regarding the state budget? Unlike coastal states, they actually plan to return it to the rightful owners, the taxpayers. Not like the insanity in Washington state where the democrats (66% of our elected politicians) are falling all over themselves to find new and exciting ways to spend the surplus in Washington. Return it to taxpayers? How hard CAN you laugh?

This happened in Russia after its demise from the cold war. Look at their state senators to far flung whacked out leftists who will do or say anything to get votes and remain in office. This is the same state that invited the leader of Iran to speak at one of their universities. This is the same scumbag that helps kill our men and women in Iraq everyday. New Yorkers invited him here. Why not free driver’s licences for all illegals. More vote for Senator Hillary. If Libs have their way she will be the leader of the greatest country in the world. There was a Chemistry professor in a large college that had some
Exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Prof noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back And stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country’s government and install a new communist government.

In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked,’Do you know how to catch wild pigs?’

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line.

The young man said this was no joke. ‘You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly, the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.

The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening to America. The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, subsidies, welfare, medicine, drugs, etc. while we continually lose our freedoms- just a little at a time.
One should always remember ‘There is no such thing as a free Lunch!’ Also, ‘You can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself.

Illegal immigrants with valid foreign passports, how can you be sure their foreign passports are valid & how many do you think there are???

“The shift in policy is geared toward increasing security and reducing (I corrected the spelling) insurance premiums for all New York drivers by an anticipated total of $120 million a year, said state Motor Vehicles Commissioner David Swarts.” This of course is major BS that is being spattered as it drops — Hello??? Are you really that ignorant & made it to be the Commissioner??? How do you suppose it will save anyone any money & especially $120 Million a year? It will cost those that have insurance higher premiums for the UM/UIM (better get it), but if they get a license & have no insurance, is the State going to cover their liability until they can get it? Commish needs to put down the crack pipe, get into rehab & face reality here.

“Chung-Wha Hong, executive director of the New York Immigration Coalition, called the new policy a victory for immigrants. She said immigrant New Yorkers who could not get licenses had a difficult time making it to work and getting children to school.” Well, if they are given legal status then I would say it is a victory too — after all OJ was victorious too — but how many believe he was guilty?

“Similar policies have been adopted in Utah, New Mexico and other states.” Just because someone else jumps off a bridge, does that mean you have to do it too?
Just had to throw that last one in for Mom’s across this country….

Perhaps you should be asking yourselves, “Do I truly want most of the jobs these immigrants are doing?” If so I know a couple of farmers who are hiring.

No wonder it was so easy for terrorists to attack us! Ideas like Mr. Spitzer’s make the target on our backs even bigger! First of all, illegal immigrants are not likely to have any “valid” passport as many of them gain passage to the US by sneaking across our southern border. This has become an open door not only for Latin American immigrants but those from other areas of the world who see the ease with which it can be done through Mexico. A driver’s license serves as proof of residency and allows one to board an aircraft. Are the illegals just going to hand over this supposed “valid” passport for a driver license or will they be subject to the same testing that most states require. Perhaps testing is not required in New York? I guess next thing we will see is Habitat for Humanity building communities for the illegals. I have no problem with immigration, but do it legally. If one wants the privilege of living here, pay taxes and learn to speak the language like everyone else. I am tired of footing the bill for illegals!

One of the significant differences between my ancestors (who came over in the 1850’s) and the immigrants coming in today is that when they came into the country, they did so legally. They did not sneak into the country.

I’ve often heard people pull out the rationalization about how we’re all immigrants, to justify letting the current “immigrants” into the country. That is not a valid argument for a variety of reasons. I fully support immigration-legal immigration. We have a system in place to allow immigration. Use it to come here, just like our ancestors did.

Also, remember this is not 1850 or even 1920. Times have changed, what was reasonable 100 years ago is not reasonable today.

As for the line about Americans not wanting to do the jobs the illegals are doing, some of that may be true. But, if there was not a ready supply of cheap illegal immigrants to provide that labor, the employers might be motivated to find a way to find the help they need; such as through better pay, sponsoring people from other countries with work visas or increasing the use of automation. All are valid means to address the labor shortage. They all seem to work. (if you don’t think sponsoring people from other countries works well, go to any theme park in the US and find out how many of the workers are from other parts of the world, especially eastern europe. When faced with labor shortages, cause our own college kids didn’t want to work at the theme parks, they set up programs to recruit and bring people in on work visas. It seems to work very well.)

What I and many others are saying is not because we are full of “hatred and bile”. We just don’t agree with illegal immigration. Wanting people to follow the rules doesn’t make us haters. That type of comment is the last refuge of people who don’t have logical arguments in favor of their position. Accuse the other person of being a bad person, just because we don’t agree with your position. If a logical and reasonable argument can be made why, in todays world, with all its issues, we should have completely open borders, I’d listen to it and maybe be persuaded. But don’t tell me that just because I don’t agree with you that I am full of hate. Most countries enforce their immigrant policies much more than we do-just look at what the Mexican government does with people trying to get into their country from their southern border. They are pretty brutal in how they treat illegals there. Oh, and by the way, I have a brother who is a legal immigrant in Germany. He followed all the rules to be admitted there, including a work permit etc., before he established residence there.

    Sami,
well put man. This is where the illegal immigrant issue gets skewed. The logic of equating those who wait in line, play by the rules and contribute to those who try to circumvent the legal process. My grandparents came from Italy, they learned the language and made sure their children learned English. They paid their dues and followed the road to legal immigration. They were proud to be considered American and learn English. Today, we must cater to illegals, be tolerant of their culture and in many states must be tolerant of their language and they are offended if we cannot provide services in their native language. This all leads to animosity on both sides. We Americans are getting tired of having to comprise our way of life to accomodate immigrants. It used to be that those immigrating to the U.S. would try to adjust to the American way of life.

It used to be that those immigrating were grateful for the opportunity to do so, however there is a new generation of immigrants that are of the opinion of entitlement to be here & be given all the social benefits that used to be granted to those that would make the transition to become an American Citizen.

I do not wish any human ill fate, however I do feel that if something isn’t done to curb the influx of these folks with their give me everything mentality that we are allowing our nation to become overrun by them & by those that simply do not care about anything but the votes they can sway to keep them in office. I hope that the day is not coming that they will find out they have sold our nation to the lowest bidders, but I feel if we do not get good people in the government offices that this is exactly where we are headed…

I have a few two cents to add:

    (1) If you want to become a citizen please go through the proper channels like everyone else. Some of things I have heard is that it is expensive and takes too long. Well, U.S. citizenship is a prize and a source of pride so anything worth having should take a while. It’s called persistence and hard work and if you stay here you’ll need to develop it.

    (2) How come being an illegal automatically allows you to take a day of work and protest across the country when (a) you’re ILLEGAL and therefore under the Constitution shouldn’t be guaranteed the right to free assemly

    (3) The case of the young lady who sought refuge in the church to fight deportation (they did send her back). I was VERY offended that people were comparing her to Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks was Black and a CITIZEN. She paid taxes and exercised her God-given rights and civil rights. Puleeeeeze.

    (3) Yes, this country was founded on immigration but we established laws and a government to regulate our actions and were made citizens. Mexico should make its own country better and it looks to me like the lesser educated (not to be racist but 90% of immigrants have to take what jobs they can get) are being shipped to America while the more educated and elite make Mexico their own private playground.

    (4) Some people were forced here. Mexicans were not forced here. You came of your own accord but you have to play by the rules too.

    (5) Some people may post racist things and the racial epithets are wrong but what is so wrong with going through the proper channels and paying taxes like the rest of us instead of believing that everyone should fall on their news and be GRATEFUL that you do the job that no one else wants to do. Once Blacks became citizens we do all the things the majority represented in this country do. Hispanics are not dying for the right to vote, there are no german shepards being sent after you and no firehoses spraying the daylights out of you.

    (6) Every group has had it own struggles for acceptance – Blacks, Jews, the Irish, the Italians, etc. It’s Hispanics turn but it’s more like gimme, gimme, gimme and let me stay a non taxpaying illegal alien and don’t make me pay into the system. You have to pay to play and if you don’t want to pay then as far as I concerned if you do become a citizen and say they make you pay back taxes for the generations of your relatives that have been here, we will see how many immigrants will want to stay then. If you fear deportation so much then act right. It’s not hard. I get sick and tired of the “I fear so much” and “we can’t come out of the shadows, “I can’ drive without fear”. You eat without fear, you get medical attention without fear, etc. PLEASE!!!

I love the quote and the P.C. term is completely interchangeable with Religion.

“Religious and religious zealotry is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which
holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd

My response, First I am an anglo or white person. You have got to be kidding me with your comments about Mexicans. Grouping all Mexicans together is every bit as ignorant as saying that all white people are stupid rednecks that eat at McDonalds and shop at Wal-Mart or that all blacks eat fried chicken and watermelon or all Indians can’t handle whiskey. I live in a border state. I am more than happy to go to church, dinner, fight in combat, have as my neighbors, cook carne asada, with Mexicans. The illegal alien problem was not caused by the entire Hispanic population but rather by all peoples entering, working and remaining in this country illegally. You sir or madam sound ignorant and need to vindicate your mistakes by apolgizing to all of us who read your comments.

Well you may have been born here but you are obviously not educated. Your post is as stupid as you are. There is a huge difference between the legal immigration of the past and the ILLEGAL immigration of the present. Take off your blinder and your dunce cap, read and educate yourself a bit before casting stones.

Then do your part & report the illegals to the respective departments that are in place to handle the removal of these illegal workers. If you have to call everyday, then do so until you get results. If I knew of a business that hired them I would not have a problem making calls every day, or even every hour to letthem know there are still illegals working there & eventually they would either quit answering the phone or maybe do a raid & make a difference!

When I lived in the Hill Country (Texas) there would be several of them walking just off the main higway (83) & I simply would document what I saw, when & where & then call the local Border Patrol office & make a report – everytime I saw them. There were many ranches that were being fined $5000 per illegal on their property, which made several ranchers hot under the collar, but stepped up their efforts to keep them out.

I am also guilty of feeding them, as there were 3 men that stumbled up our driveway when we were grilling & they were hungry, offered $20 for food to feed them, but I did not take advantage of their not understanding & let them keep their $ & I fed them. This was out of human kindness, and I would do it for anyone that was hungry if I had the means to share, with race not playing a part in any way, I would also feed a stray dog or cat…

But, if you want to see a different result, you have to take the steps to change. Call your local Border Patrol or INS offices, get to know the people that are doing the work there & send them a great job card when you can – letthem know that you support the work they do & it is not for nil.

Um..i was speaking more from a government control perspective. there are companies that have INS raids all of the time…and the people just get sent back to mexico, but nothing seems to happen to the companies. then guess what, the company goes back and recruits more illegals. i would like to see the government hand heavy duty fines and have owners in jail for some time….

i don’t need a neighborhood watch calling the government if all they are going to do is ship people back home and let the company keep repeating the viscious cycle. that is completely and utterly useless.

We like to throw around the “b” word. To all who disagree with my post, let me clarify something. When I say that it is Hispanics turn, I am stating this from the standpoint point that people will accept your plight when you deign to become a part of the citizenry. You can take my comments anyway you like about education and the like. EVERYONE should get an education. My only problem is with prisioners getting one and I already as a CITIZEN pay for that when I had to pay for my own college education. The facts are that immigrants of any ethnicity should pay taxes and get a card / citizenship as soon as possible. Like welfare, illegal status shouldn’t be something passed down from one generation to the next like oops I forgot I wasn’t a citizen. If half of the purported 20 million Hispanic illegals came here legally that still leaves 10 million people that need to become citizens. I didn’t make the rules but I still abide by them. Think about it, anyone that comes here illegally, the state does not have a background check to fall back on, no SSN or any other track record. Does that sound right to you, Jack-Off? I did not use a racial epithet as I would not appreciate it. You can be prideful of what country you come from, but more than anything it’s great to be in America and an AMERICAN. It seems that Eastern Europeans, Arabs, Africans and East Indians and others do not have any problem with coming here and establishing themselves legally but the Hispanic group thinks they are special and should be treated different. That’s what I have a problem with.

You need to check YOUR history. Peoples came first across the Bering Strait, then came Africans, then the Vikings, and everyone else and America is named after Amerigo Vespucci – an Italian. Blacks built this country and unfortunately Whites directed them to throught the system of slavery. At least Hispanics are getting paid for their labor. You’re doggone right that it’s your turn to be a viable LEGAL slice of the American pie. Some people posting do not want citizenship status granted at all so at least I’m nice.

Also, Africans intermingled with and taught the Olmecs (early Mexican) and you can see their artwork and artifacts in Mexico. Read any of Dr. Ivan Van Sertima’s books. We know that there was a Hispanic presence – New Mexico, Arizona, California – those names are not of English, German or any other origin. And anyway all life started in Africa (Ethiopia) so there!!!

Several years ago I worked for a company in Colorado that had quite a few hispanics working for them. When I questioned my boss concerning a “doctored” social security card that had been used to get employment, I was told that we were not allowed to question the card, that we were to accept it as is. (as per our government instructions) These illegals also got free medical services. These inequities not make me very happy. Why should I have to show a legal SS #, and pay premiums for insurance to cover medical neccesities?

Steve, thanks for the compliment. As lefties disagree with you it is typical to resort to personal attacks and name calling. Well Dumba** I can relate to immigrants – first my cousins immigrated here from Brazil and Italy to become U.S. citizens, it was one of their most proudest days of there life and great ceremony taking in how proud everyone was to become a citizen. My best friends became a U.S. citizen from Israel. I saw first hand how much money they spent in attorney fees and time devoted to becoming citizens, not to mention the amount of money invested in U.S. business ventures to satisfy the U.S. Govt. requirements in becoming citizens. They are all very happy to be citizens of this country. So don’t tell me I’m ignorant to this discussion. I have seen first hand how immigrants who go through the system legally try to become a citizen and are proud of their achievements.
The fact is the illegals broke the law and try to circumvent the process. If they overstayed their visa’s to try and screw the system or jumped ship or jumped over a wall, they need to go! Government does not need to appease these people and give them the same rights as those of us who are here legally and paying taxes! But the Spitzer types don’t care about money cause you and I are their funding vehicle, in the form of taxes. So take your know-it-all kum-by-ya attitude and stick it!
    Proud to be an American!!!

I worry for the state of this country… and I make sure my government knows it.

The best thing we can do is ANNOY THE DICKENS out of our representatives on the state and federal levels with calls, emails and letters. Ask your family and friends to do the same.

    Here’s how…

http://www.votesmart.org (Contact info for almost everyone in any elected office can be found here!)

http://www.rockthevote.com (Register to vote if you haven’t done so yet.)

Capitol Switchboard – (202) 224-3121 (Give the operator your zip code to be connected with the appropriate Senator or Rep.)

Email, call, write a letter, write 10 letters! Get in their faces (politely, of course) and make sure they know HOW you want them to represent YOU.

Since Mexican carriers are now crossing the border and hauling freight in the US, how long until these drivers get US CDLs? Does this new licensing proposition address CDLs?

If Mexican carriers begin to haul freight in the US in large enough numbers, it will put American drivers out of business.

America started as a melting pot and will continue to be a melting pot. There is nothing wrong with people from other countries coming here to live AS LONG AS they do so through the proper channels, pay taxes, speak the language and do everything else that is expected of a natural born American.

However, I believe Nebraskan made the excellent point that until businesses cease to hire cheap illegal immigrant labor, the problem with illegal immigrants will never ever go away.

Therefore we will continue to pay for them in one way or another through higher insurance premiums and taxes; and American labor workers will pay the price through reduced wages due to competition from illegal workers.

    Call, write, email, ANNOY! LOL

Actually, the Mexicans were here before the blacks. Here are three history exam questions for you.

1)In 1836 1500 Mexican troops slaughtered 186 primarily white Tejano fighters in San Antonio, Tejas (now Texas)at the Alamo for trying to take over formerly Mexican property.
    TRUE or FALSE?

2)3 weeks later at San Jacinto, TX 175 Tejanos killed 670 Mexican soldiers on siesta. The primarily white fighters were really pissed about their freinds getting killed at the Alamo a few weeks prior. The white folks had come to Tejas which was owned and run by (multiple choice)
a)negro slaves sold by other negros in Africa and brought to North America by evil white folks from Europe.
    b)the Italian Mafia
    c)Columbus
    d)the nation of Mexico

3)The Mexican/American war was fought by Americans who wanted to expand their country from one coast to the other and felt like it was their destiny to do so.

According to this articla & all the news I have seen on this subject, Gov Spitzer says this new policy will lower the number of illegal immigrants who are driving without licenses and car insurance or with fake licenses because it will “Bring ‘people out of the shadows’ into American society.” What I don’t understand is why anyone would think that a person who is living here illegally–and no matter what your opinion is, you have to acknowledge the key word is illegally–is going to run out & get a license & insurance just because they “can.” People I have met who say they have friends/relatives who are illegal say the people here illegally don’t trust many govt programs anyway, so the liklihood is that they will just continue to go on the way they are. Personally, I think Gov Spitzer and other politicians would be serving us better if they worked on ways to make people here illegally somehow become legal–whether temporarily or permanently–so they can pay taxes and be accountable for their actions, but that is just my opinion.

Two Words for illegal aliens – GET LEGAL. Texas History teacher,

I don’t care what you think – everything’s supposedly bigger in Texas and that includes the egos too I guess. History books are biased in and of themselves and having lived in the South all my life all say different things to make that particular state look better. Really the main argument is CITIZENSHIP. Why should others have to bother to go through the motions when millions upon millions of Hispanics will have the slate wiped clean for them. It’s a slap in the face for native born and naturalized citizens. We might as well give Mahmoud an honored seat at the table of citizenship while we’re at it. Whether it’s the trucking situation (my pa is a former trucker) or the licenses the situation is going to hell in a hand basket. Either work out the citizenship or let people have work visas or whatever angle but don’t ENABLE people in the meantime. It’s become such a monster our government doesn’t know what the heck to do. You have the situation where some family members are here and others are in Mexico and some Hispanics say we want all of our family here too. PLEASE! You either should have all come over at the same time or not at all.

My former neighors were Mexicans from Yucatan Peninsula. They kept us up at night working but they became citizens as soon as they could as well as several other family members. I have hardly any problems as long as you share the tax load with me and everything else. So I am not a bigot or a jacka**. When you have to go there you degrade your own self. If people post thought provoking ideas then others want to break out the “I know some Mexicans and they can cook and do all this other cool stuff and have no problem with them and you should apologize”…

    SHUT UP!!!

I want to agree with the others that Mexicans settled Texas, California, and most of the other southwestern states long before the white man or black man moved here. Also saying illegals at least get paid for their work is akin to saying slaves received proper room and board, medical and dental, retirement planning. I am sorry but you sound very bigoted in your comments about Hispanics. By the way my family came here legally and we are citizens. We think the illegal aliens are criminals and should be rounded up and deported as soon as possible. This includes Mexicans, Blacks, Whites, Arabs, Russians, etc. etc. etc.

When they show up at driver licensing offices and are handed their shiny new licenses, have officers from Immigration outside to arrest them & deport them after stripping them of their shiny new licenses. This is BS…illegals need to earn citizenship before they are allowed the ‘perks’ of living here. And yes, a driver’s license is a perk, not a right.

How will insurance prices be lowered…I certainly think there will be a lot more UM/UIM premium generated, but I don’t forsee premium reductions.

I had some friends who were illegal mexicans, they were great people and great friends. They were here simply for a better life. However, the thing that bugged me and that bugs me with all illegals is they claim to want citizenship but they make no effort to learn our language and clearly don’t want to pay our taxes, yet expect everything in return. They go to demonstrations and wave the Mexican flag while disrespecting the American flag, yet all the while they say they want to be here legally. Why would we let people even become citizens who don’t show us any respect as a country? I’m proud to be American and very offended by those who disrespect the greatest country on earth, yet at the same time claim they have a right to be here. Take down your mexican flag, take those goofy mexican stickers and Catholic statues off of your cars, and learn the English language. We owe you nothing, either go home or make an effort to become a proper citizen and EARN your right to live in this country.

This will give illegal immigrants the opportunity to have some kind of freedom in this country, they are here to help us, why shouldn’t we help them?

Sonia — you are missing the point — you are here illegally — why should you get a document that says you can drive legally? I sincerely believe that 99.9% of the population of the USA wants to help out the people from other countries that just want to make a better life for themselves — the problem is that it is reported that 11 million people are are here illegally — there comes a time to say STOP it is ENOUGH. We struggle to educate our children and the children of illegals — when is enough, enough? People that come here illegally should not expect to have the same privileges as citizens.

All we can do as ordinary people is help where we can & vote for leadership that actually represents us, the voters!

As far as granting any illegal immigrant anything that shows their legality to drive, I think the person must already have a drivers license from another country & the US issued license can be an added part to the existing. This way the US License attachment can be renewed every 6 months, thus creating records of those here, providing last known addresses, etc… so that tracing those here illegally can be easier for authorities. It might not be a bad idea to go ahead & fingerprint them when they get the license attachment… might help out at some crime labs around the country.

I’m not saying anything derogatory about any particular race, just looking to see how we as a nation might benefit from the idea of it all…

It’s better than not having a clue who they are & finding out from others that some MS-13 members have fled after their most recent crime spree & now, out of the country, are not facing the charges for their criminal behavior here – but if they had a US License attachment then when they show back up – lock em up & make them face the US Judge & Jury for their punishment for their crimes…. Try them in Texas & let’s put the sorry murdering thievs on death row for about 30 days max unless they have a family member that is willing to pay for their keep behind bars for the rest of their lives.
