His “viewpoint” involves higher payouts to those injured on the job in MN, which is one of his campaign issues there. So yeah, his viewpoint is different: he’s a hypocritical democrat (sorry for the redundancy).

That’s the liberal way? Have you not been reading the newspapers for the past 7 yrs? I agree that it seems to be the wealthy way, i.e. do as I say and not as I do, but labeling it as a liberal idea seems a little off-base.

The rules apply to us little people, not the bigwigs like the Bush and Cheney families, Rush Oxycontin Limbaugh, etc., etc. etc. . That’s the conservative way – they make the rules, we have to keep them and pay the taxes–and die in their filthy oil wars. At least no one died.

Conservoman–the time for the big lie is over. As your mouthpiece says on Fox Agitprop (“News”)–SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP!

Go vote for your old man–given his age and the demands of the office, it is going to be a new version of that classic game–BEAT THE REAPER, through entirely natural causes.

Have the sort of day you deserve….

Conservative or liberal, the wealthy and powerful are all the same. They play by different rules, and are somehow entitled to ignore such petty things as workers compensation statutes.

However, and this is addressed to “Liberal”, I am just curious about whether or not you use oil products? When you describe the Iraq war, as misguided as it might be, as a dirty war for oil, look in the mirror, and also at our standard of living, and ask yourself if you are willing to part with any portion of that oil.

    Well stated, Middleoftheroad.

Conservatives and Republicans are not one and the same. A conservative is a person with a particular point of view. A Republican is an affiliate of a political party. Same applies to liberals and Democrats.

Now, if people wanted to start discussing the core of the issues and stop labeling each other, perhaps both sides could learn a little? Just a suggestion.

The very wealthy do not have to follow the same rules as the working class because when they have a problem all they really have to do is throw money at it and the problem goes away. Must be nice.

Al Franken either made an honest mistake or someone in his camp didn’t do their homework. He probably put someone else in charge of it and they dropped the ball… How many politicans/celebrites actually open their own mail? My boss doesn’t open her own mail and she’s neither politician nor celebrity. Poop happens, but at least he said he would pay it.

I didn’t know that Rush made the rules. Huh.

So Rage Boy, does Franken owe $25k in fines for failure to provide workers comp or not? Is he campaigning for larger payouts for workers comp claims or not? Is he a hypocrite or not?

Typical right wing extremist–can’t spell. I guess “derangement” at 3 syllables is a bit much for an insurance man.

As to proper political speech, you are not going to learn it from right wing hate radio and right wing hate TV–Fox Agitprop. (Cf. all of Sean’s cutesy little names for everything and his constant ad hominem attacks or Rush’s beyond the pale behavior). I was only quoting your right wing Fox Agitprpop idol, Bill All-Riled-Up. That’s his tag phrase, deliberately ignorant one. Call it a salute to him–and we’re not even in the shower. At the same time as the right wing hate media started this virulent personal attack on all things different, Bush and Co. started talking about the need for civil discourse.

As to supersized Americans driving their super-sized vehicles, I don’t. And yes, I would trade them all in to save American lives, my neighbors’ spouses and children, so we are not projecting military force to steal oil from everyone else. Gee whatever happended to your favorite “free markets”? Need a little gummint help with those, boys?

You know, they say when the embezzler goes on vacation, his crimimal activity comes out. I think your reply and the reply of some others expose the true raw and very ugly motivations of some self-absorbed Americans–much like Sean Hannity, any limits placed on childish self-indulgence gets blamed on “liberals.” The righty movement is all about power and stealing through military force (Iraq) or simple, basic commerical theft through corruption (the GOP/lobbyist Congress).

I don’t know what reality you live in, but it ain’t a very well populated one….perhaps aluminum foil hats are worn by all your enemies in that place.

The good news is that soon much of the evil done in the past seven years will be swept away, like tears in the rain.

Sorry to interject fact into your baseless arguement, but we only “steal” less than 10% of our oil from the middle east. Our biggest supplieres of oil (or to help you understand in LIBERAL terms, stollen oil) is from Canada, Mexico and South America.

I hope all of you will take just a moment to do some deep breathing and think about what matters on a smaller scale. What great thing did your kid accomplish today? When was the last time you called your dad and had a laugh? Have you checked the fluids in your car engine lately? What kind of leads were you able to get this week?

Political discussions are always lively, that’s for sure. I just wish they weren’t so often unnecessarily hateful. A passion for one’s own point of view is appreciated, but in some cases, it goes beyond reasonable.

Anyone remember Al Franken’s SNL character Stewart Smalley? He’s good enough, he’s smart enough and doggone it, people like him. Can I get a big cheesy grin? Just one? Please? =)

And for what it’s worth, most Repubs aren’t conservative just like most Dems aren’t liberal. Most people are right down the middle of the road. Me? Socially modrate, economic conservative. if he is a liberal or conservative? Funny thing here is that the line has become so blurred its hard to tell any more. Look at Bush, he is supposed to be a conservative, but he has been fiscally irresponsible throughout his whole Presidency (something I thought was attributable only to libs, but I digress). He didn’t pay for WC, more like his accountant didn’t pay for it with Al’s money. Mistakes happen, give him time to correct it. Come on, lighten up.

But then it was just him and he became first boring, and then mean spirited. Maybe someone could explain rationally, how being liberal is justification to argue and advance a proposition or issue through vicious, personal diatribe and degradation.

“Maybe someone could explain rationally, how being liberal is justification to argue and advance a proposition or issue through vicious, personal diatribe and degradation.”

Because liberal political views spring from emotion. Liberals judge by intent rather than effect. Conservative views spring from facts. The consequences of actions are what’s important, not the hopes of the actors.

So e.g. libs are content to continue throwing billions of $$ at the welfare state because they mean well, despite the fact that it has destroyed vastly more lives than it has helped (which is close to zero). Conservatives can look at the situation and decide that it should be abandoned rather than fed, given the string of failures in its wake.

Therefore, the left gets very testy when its policies are questioned or disparaged, because they sense that their dearest ideals are being attacked despite their good intentions. So they lash out ferociously with ad hominem arguemtns and obfuscation designed to deflect attention on the questioner rather than on the problems caused by liberal “solutions.”

I will admit I am a moderate. I lean to the left on some issues, but more to the right on most issues. I do have a question for you. Again, this is from a moderate, not a “liberal” but what facts did the current administration use when invading Iraq? No WMD’s were found. I have seen a clip back from the 1990’s when Dick Cheney talked about Iraq and how invading it would be a mistake, take too long, etc, etc. In light of your explanation of all things liberal and conservative, how can you justify that? I am not trying to start an argument here, merely trying to show that blanket cliches do not fit either libs or conservatives. Either side can mistakes and base decisions (while not necessarily on emotion) but incorrect facts. While there is normally a hint of truth to cliches, I think we fall back on them too heavily when faced with opposition from the other side. A little bit of empathy or even civility would help to soften the divisive line. I believe both liberal and conservative are guilty of this, and I do not mean to suggest otherwise. I also don’t think the “they do it too” argument suffices for justification either.

John Kerry, both Clintons, Algore and others were adamant about Saddam having weapons banned by the cease fire agreement that ended Guf War I. So the fifteen violations of those terms for fourteen years despite fifteen UN resolutions left the civilized world with no options but to take action. The alternative to waiting for him to come clean was to await his use of WMD’s. Could a responsible leader have made that choice?

Chemical weapons were found in Iraq by US troops, as were missiles banned by the GWI cease fire.

Congress passed a “sense of the congress” resolution in the 90’s (I forget the exact year) stating that it was official US policy to seek regime change in Iraq.

The Chech and Brit intel agencies stand by their stories that Iraq was seeking enriched uranium in Africa and that Saddam’s agents were meeting with Al Qaeda.

Abu mussad al Zarqawi, Abu Nidal, and other AQ and non-AQ terrorists were in Baghdad with Saddam’s permission.

Iraq was on the “watchlist of terrorist sponsoring nations.”

Saddam was paying $25k to suicide bombers who killed Jews.

Its really easy to say that you’d give up all the gas guzzlers to save the soldiers lies-actually if you read up on the various peace movements in the 20’s and 30’s, you’d find similar sentiments.
Unfortunately the world-not just the US lives on oil and oil related profits. If we don’t get ours, than Chindia will-the increase in their consumption has far and away outstripped ours over the last 10 years and if the projections are right, will over take our consumption in the next 5 years.
The problem with your argument is that you take a sentimental statement and play it out in a vacuum, as if other countries will somehow play nice if only we do.
The history of the world has ALWAYS involved a competiton for natural resources and will continue. What HAS changed is folks like you-instead of wanting more for America and Americans, you want to restrain us, but not our competitors-the Kyoto Treaty is a great example-we have to cut back on OUR growth and development and Chindia can grow and use all they want.
I’m a vet and I have no probelm making friends and securing all the oil we need so that my family and yours can stay employed and keep our homes warm.

12 Billion a month in Iraq.
Imagine if we just kept all the money and never bothered with Iraq. Thats like over 1 trillion invested in the American economy.

IF we just spent it on rebuilding our infrastructure, creating jobs,I bet we would not be in this recession right now.

There are no terrorist attacks that I can see. Where are they? Oh right, they are in sleeper cells in places like Lackawanna NY. They just sleep all day instead of doing their jobs, which is to go blow themselves up at the mall and scare us. But im not in the least bit scared. I dont feel terrorized at all.

Not one terroritst attack, even though our govt says there are sleeper cells in the US?

Hmmmmm, is someone lying, is there a global agenda, put together to favor the world elite? No of course not Im just a conspiracy nut.

Rich people would never get together and figure out how to consolidate power and become richer. Why would they do that???
