Key New Jersey Flood Prevention Measures Not Getting Funding

Several measures to stop flooding in the flood-prone areas of New Jersey’s Passaic and Bergen counties are stalled over funding problems.

The Record of Bergen County reported for Sunday’s newspapers that many of the projects are at risk for lack of money.

In one example, a study by the Army Corps of Engineers into dredging the lower Saddle River is about $800,000 short of what’s needed to complete it.

Along the Peckman River Basin only $3.5 million of a planned $4.4 million study has been funded.

Another effort to buy out 800 homes along the Passaic River hasn’t received money since 2005.
