Well, he knows he’ll never collect it.

BUT, after serving only four years for killing one man and permanently disabling another, maybe a huge judgement against the driver is the best the state can do. And even if the only one deterred from driving is drunk is her, they’ve saved a life. Not hers, no sympathy for her, but whoever her next victim would have been.

I saw this guy on TV; first thing out of his mouth is that this was not about the money, that no money could bring his partner back. My wife was very sympathetic until we heard plaintiff’s attorney opine that this would serve more as a deterrent for others….how so? the woman exhausted her auto policy limits, the club has no insurance, so who’s ganna pay, some guaranty fund? uninsured motorists’ fund? they’ll get the money from someone for sure! There are many who are concerned about the money, plaintiff and his attorney will leave no stone unturned. I dare plaintiff to donate ALL recovered proceeds to the Bethesda Mission in Harrisburg….if it’s really not about the money! And some deterrent; I know every drunk driver out there is too blotto to even think or be concerned about deterrence!
