A silo filled with chopped corn came crashing down on an eastern Pennsylvania dairy farm, bringing electric and phone lines with it — but no one was injured.
It happened about 11:30 p.m. Monday at a farm owned by Glenn Hertzler in Limestone Township, Montour County.
The 64-foot tall, 20-foot wide silo held an estimated 200 tons of feed. Hertzler says he guesses “it was too much weight for its age.” The silo was 44 years old.
Hertzler says he and his brother Gary were able to save about two-thirds of the silage used to feed their heifers.
The silo fell across Hagenbach Road, and corn mixed with broken pieces of concrete is piled on either side of the roadway.
Utility crews worked through the night to restore power and phone service.
