I’m so relieved that it’s only $10 for the enforcement fee. I would have paid much more, even for a bi-annual policy.

PS. Are coupes less since they have fewer doors?

Why can’t the state of NY just send the bill directly to the vehicle owner? Why does the insurance company have to collect it?
Could it be that the state wants you to think the big bad insurance company is adding to your bill. Like the cable companies and utility companies have to do with all the nickel and dime fees the state and feds want to collect.
    Can’t we stop the NONSENSE!

It makes you wonder why the fee isn’t added to the registration fee.

Hello America. The governor and legislative leaders (that’s how NY government has been run for the past 20+ years), are not intelligent enough to put together a budget bill without causing additional confusion.
For clarification – the “enforcement fee” isn’t for ENFORCEMENT, because the fees go into the general fund. It’s just another state rip-off.
Now, guess why people are moving out of state.

The way this is written makes it sound like this is a new thing. It’s been in effect for at least 7 years. It was originally $1, then increased to $5 in 2003. The proposed increase was to $20, 1/2 which was to go to NYS transportation (which probably includes the MTA). The fee is used to fund the motor vehicle theft and insurance fraud prevention fund and the state policy motor vehicle law enforcement account. (which sounds like a separate account)I am wondering why we here on LI are required to pay it when the NYS police don’t even patrol our main road INTERSTATE 495(LIE).

If it’s $5 why am I being charged $10 per car?

    What a joke…???
The fee is used to fund the motor vehicle theft and insurance fraud prevention fund and the state policy motor vehicle law enforcement account.

Let me ask…if my car got stolen or I found my neighbor committed auto insurance fraud, will I get the money from this fund?
