…should be kept wild. Chimps are not pets. Orangatans are not pets. Gorillas are not pets. Poisonious snakes are not pets. Piranna are not pets. Wild boar are not pets. Killer man-eating crocodiles are not pets. Any animal that can bite your face off IS NOT A PET!

“Any animal that can bite your face off IS NOT A PET!” Dogs can do this type of damage. Where does this fit into your argument?

Most dogs(not all ) are bred as DOMESTICATED animals. Some dogs(pit bulls etc) are bred for fighting and kept in inhumane conditions and ARE NOT PETS>

    No mor yelling please.

(The injuries Ms. Nash are horrific and the following is not meant to denigrate or lampoon her terrible situation. Rather, consider the following as a comment on our increasingly foolish society.)

I think the Estate of Travis should sue the makers of Xanax and the Elvis-killer vet who prescribed the drug that caused Travis to go ape.

I agree with Chris. I have an idiot across the street from me. She’s a public school teacher and her BOYFRIEND whom she purchased a house with, got impregnated to because he got called to Iraq, and is generally a stupid fool, owns the largest pit bull i’ve ever seen. She walks it on a sinlge leather leash, with her baby. THAT is a wild animal, and should be shot and when it broaches my property….

Yes Reagan, I believe you are on firm ground to destroy that dog as it presents a clear & present danger to you and your loved ones.
Pit bulls, Rottweillers, & Dobermans..these doga have an especially acute (BAD) chase & bite instinct, and I might mention they bite, dig in and hold..-then they tear apart the poor victim.
Mace , Hot Pepper Spray ?
Ask any US Postal carrier….all it does is piss-off the dog, because it’s ineffective on them.
God help all of us !

I respectfully disagree. Domesticated dogs are harmless unless the human owner does something moronic. Like feed it xanax. Or beat it mercilessly. Or put its food in a human shaped bowl.

I’ll make a slight exception for the Chow breed…just because the blue tongue scares me.

I have to dissagree with your comment about certain dogs. Having being bitten and attacked by a bassett hound and my lip bit and almost chewed off. The dog then realized what he had done and starting trying to appolgize to me. I truly beleive any breed is capable of attack and it is how the owner trains them which causes them to attack people. This dog was a stray that attacked me. We took it in to take care of it cause no one else would. It didn’t mean to attack me it was just confused. I also don’t beleive in the stupid insurance companies dog lists that says you can’t have certain breeds of dogs. Its not the dogs fault that the owners train them the way they do. I think you should have to pass some kind of IQ test to own a dog. Furthermore no normal human being should be able to keep a chimp in there home nor any other wild animal. Wild animals belong in the wild and not in our homes where they can hurt someone because they can’t be taken care of correctly. But of course that would be in a perfect world and since ever since Michael Jackson thought he could own all of these wild animals now it has become a trend of the wealthy and that is why we have been so intuned to watching the outcome of this wonderful lawsuit of the Chimp against a human being. Guess who wins here.

Domesticated dogs are not harmless. If they have the ability to tear you to shreds then they belong in the ground, not on my maple shaded street being pulled around by 30 year old’s who have the mentality of a 16 year old. “Look at how coool I am with my pit!” Despicable. Poddles can be fought off, as can bassett hounds, Pitt Bulls can kill a any man, let alone a baby or a toddler

    George,
Kindly see what I said..these dogs have an “acute chase & bite instinct”
Yes, a poodle might chase & bite you, but you sure as hell won’t die a pitifull death.
I call your attention to the lady who was mauled to death by the dog owned by a couple in San Francisco a few years ago.
(I think it was a presa canario (?))..-likewise a vicious dog.
The lawyer husband & his lawyer wife were absolutely dispassionate about the lady’s death at their hands; as the dog had previously displayed vicious behavior
    Enough.
We need legislation to propose some rules here

I don’t think more laws is the answer. I’m pretty sure that dog attacks (and all animal attacks in general) are an extremely tiny percentage of accidental injury in this country. I’d be willing to bet animal attacks are the cause of less than one percent of injuries in the US. Better education on how to raise a pet is what i would suggest. This reminds me of “shark fever” when Jaws was released. Less likely than getting struck by lightning, but let’s kill all of them just in case. Better safe than sorry!

Most Vets will tell you that certain breeds (Pit Bulls, Chows, etc) are inherently more dangerous with regards to biting, aggressive/protective behavior, and “pack” behaviors. Funny how you never read in the news about a Golden Retriever mauling someone to death. Just doesn’t happen. But they will bite.

Anyone who states that “Pit Bull behavior is caused solely by the owner’s treatment of the dog” knows nothing about the dogs. Yes, there are exceptions within the breed and many Pit Bulls live their lives with their owners (and families) with no incidents. But those people are ignorant and lucky they haven’t experienced what the breed is capable of doing.
