When is there going to be some regulation regarding these dangerous retread tires? How many times have you had to swerve on the highways in order to escape damage to your vehicle because all of our highways coast to coast are littered with this very dangerous debris?
If “Agent007” really thinks that retreaded tires are dangerous, then he had better never set foot in a commercial airliner! In my previous life, I designed retread molds for commercial and military aircraft up to and including our B-52. Since the advent of steel belted radial tires, tread failure on any tire, new or retreaded, can result in the ‘debris’ that he mentions. The real culprit here, was East News who infered that the tire failed because it was retreaded. No mention was made of how the tire failed, nor what part of the tire failed. Shoddy journalism creates a lot of today’s misconceptions!
I’m out of my league here, but I was once told that those large tire cages are mostly for the containment of the wheel components. They have been known to blow apart if incorrectly assembled. You would think a tire tech would check the pressure before removing it from a protective cage…not that it is capable of containing a true blowout.
Multiple issues need to be investigated/evaluated including:
1. integrity of the “pre-retread tire”. As FRE points out, the retread operation may not be the cause. “throwing a tread” is usually the result of a blowout, not the cause.
2. calibration of the inflation device. Was it registering the PSI accurately?
3. operator carelessness/in-attention.
4. operator safety training. Was it adequate?

Appears Agent 007 bought one of the “Jumping to Conclusions” mats off the movie ‘Office Space’. You’ve Won !
This is also the reason I won’t be in the same room with Rosie. She could explode at anytime! God knows she has more hot air in her than any retread
