After banning cell phone usage by drivers, what’s next, drinking? We penalize those AFTER the accident, but those laws do little, other that create more bureaucracy, to stop others from harm.

Here we go again. I’ve lobbied for years to ban the playing of pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey while driving without success. Will someone please think of the children! For Pete’s sake you can’t drive while blindfolded! How can they ban cell phones and not pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey?

Delaware is a one-party state, infested with Democrats. All corrupt, and all convinced that they were chosen to better the lot of mankind. Just a bunch of deluded self-righteous idiots.

These “bans” aren’t worth the paper they’re written on. The problem is much larger…..stupid people. Driving an automobile requires 100% of your time. There are to be no distractions to compromise judgment and reaction time. The world got along just fine before cell phones and blackberries. With the exception of emergency workers, medical professionals, law enforcement, and firefighters, nobody has anything that important that a call can’t wait until you reach your destination or a rest area. It’s just that simple. People are turning into mindless robots who must be entertained and doing something 100% of the time. “multi-tasking” is fine if you’re flying a desk, but it has no place behing the wheel of a car.

I agree with Dread and, for that matter, the other commentors. We’ve had a law here in NY banning used of hand-held cell phones while driving for several years, actually pioneered in my county prior to that. Theoretically, it’s more of a “feel good” law than a practical one because it fails in the real world as people simply ignore it. I see more and more drivers talking on hand-held cell phones now than I ever did before the law was passed. What good is a law if not enforced? Oh, wait, it gives police officers another reason to ticket a driver if stopped for another offense. It also gives plaintiff attorneys another tool in an action against an at-fault driver to guarantee a settlement from the insurer. These laws work about the same as the multitude of stop signs we have here in residential areas that many drivers simply ignore. But, they also give plaintiff attorneys another tool to gain settlements.
