Why are some people so suspicious of their own auto insurance carrier? I’ve worked P&C claims for 30+ years and have had excellent results with “preferred shops”. The general public knows nothing about autobody repair. The insurance company knows a great deal about it and guarantees the repairs for as long as the insured owns the vehicle. You get no such guarantee if you blindly select a different shop. So long as the repairs are done properly there should be no issue. Some people think that by randomly choosing a shop they can dictate whether body parts are replaced vs. repair. Isn’t so. Done properly, a repaired sheet metal part is just as strong and looks just as good as a replacement part. It costs a lot less too. With the “replace everything” mentality, insurance rates would go through the ceiling. Totally unrealistic.

Auto repair is auto repair and it isn’t necessary to make moral judgments on who’s fixing the cars. If organized crime has good craftsmen and can do a quality job fixing a car at a competitive price I could care less. What if the Jews or Catholics ran the auto repair industry. We can’t boycott everyone.

    1) concern is the body shop of choice going to guarantee their work? or will it costs more money?

    2) is the amount of initial costs going to be more than the insurance can validate for?

now look who is making money?

insurance co’s are big corporations wich the liberals have taught everyone to hate. Repair shops are local guys just trying to make a living. See the difference. Now i dont agree but thats why consumers dont trust ins co’s. Also lets face it Co’s have burned some bridges with some folks, people talk to each other. An adjuster screws me, i tell my neighbor etc etc etc.

“pulling” what stuff? It’s a good business model that’s a win-win for the company and the car owner. There is no conspiracy here. All preferred shops are required to meet stringent industry standards. If there’s a problem with the repairs, Allstate intervenes and has the leverage to get it resolved. It also guarantees the repairs as long as the the driver owns the car. The problem is, people have been brainwashed not to trust their own company. That’s absurd. The average person knows jack about selecting a quality repair shop. The preferred shop program relieves them of that pressure.

C’mon, Dennis. The program isn’t about relieving the customer of pressure.

The way the company backs up the warrenty is through the body shop so if the adjuster who is not an auto repair professional requests a inferior repair the body shop still gets to warrenty what they didnt want to repair in the first place. The only one that this is an advantage for is the insurance company to save money, sugar coat it all you want.
