It is about time that the Communist State of Virginia got in line with the rest of the states on the eastern coast and raised the limit to 70. The interstates were designed for traffic in most places to support an 80 mph speed limit. I-81 is a different animal in certain places and 60 is just too fast, but overall, for the rest, 70 to 75 is ample for the road conditions.
What we need in enforcement is for the Police to enforce the left lane laws and if they catch someone playing wannabe traffic cop traveling in the passing lane at 10 below the limit, stop them and write them a ticket for reckless endangerment. They are a danger to everyone else.
If you want to drive 55, get on the country two lanes. The interstate system is for moving commerce, not a pictorial joyride.
When you get on an interstate you need to have full concentration on what you are doing. Not putting on makeup, fussing with your hair, swatting kids in the backseat, texting or gabbing on your phone.

My F-250 truck weights almost 4 tons empty. Cruising at 70, it takes well over 170 feet to stop it. When you pull out in front of me in your Prius, putting at 40 on an interstate with your head stuck up your ***, you are just dying for some action.

If you are a cop, you know yourself that 95% of the truck crashes involving 4-wheelers are caused by the idiot driving the car. I investigate these crashes in your state and in mine. And yes, they are crashes, not accidents.
And usually in a “multiple car crash scenario” the usual cause is someone changing lanes traveling at the speed limit to pass that damn idiot in the left lane running 40 and came up on that idiot too fast to slow down to avoid hitting them in the ***. I have seen it happen.
I drove through the medium once to avoid an idiot that caused a crash by pulling out of the slow lane into the fast lane running well below the limit. I missed her, but the car behind me did not. The idiot was lucky that she did not die in her little Honda. She was hit by a Silverado.
So, before you threaten to wait for me, do your job and take the idiots off the road before one of those underinsured fools takes out your own family for their own stupidity.

I am with you Paul; I use cruise control and keep it just about 4 mph over the limit but I am most mindful about two rules of the road: keep right, pass left and hang up and drive. It is just plain common sense to drive defensively when all of these idiots sit in the left lane, yak yak yak yak yak and then when I pass them on the right, they hang up and all of a sudden can find the damn gas pedal, and then they speed up. One lady in PA killed a cop while doing her makeup, had several priors for negligent/careless driving and actually is trying to get the cell phone records declared as part of an unlawful search. And she thinks she’s the victim! the highway is for “work”, not a pleasure cruise.
Driving too fast for conditions can get you killed. Driving legally at 140+ on the autobahn or illegally on lightly travelled interstates in the US is quite safe so long as you pay attention and slow way down if traffic density increases. Weaving in and out from one lane to another and going a lot faster than the traffic around you is a death wish.

You cannot concentrate on traveling at that rate of speed while gabbing on the phone, texting, putting on makeup or swatting kids. You are traveling just too damn fast. All it takes is one second, just one second and all hell will break loose. Like the idiot in the Honda pulling out in front of me. I caught the maneuver just out of the corner of my eye. Can you see the destruction a 8K pound Super Duty Diesel could to to a 2K pound Civic. She was just lucky that the Silverado was a 2WD. If I had hit her, I would have drove over her car instead of just pushing it down the road. My front bumper would have hit the hatch glass above the taillights.
It is these idiots with their heads stuck up their asses that pulls out in from of the big rigs, I guess with the thought, “They won’t hit me, it will be their fault!” FAULT HELL! Fault does not have anything to do with it.

I have never noticed anyone on I95 or I85 paying the slightest attention to any sort of speed limit. Pedal to the metal.
