Hartford Affiliate Pays $67K in Restitution to Virginia Customers

An affiliate of The Hartford has paid nearly $67,000 in restitution to policyholders in Virginia, following an investigation by state regulators over premiums charged by Trumbull Insurance Co.

The company agreed to a settlement in which it repaid the money to 1,590 policyholders in the state.

Regulators say the company was using improper rates for those customers.

The company paid no additional fines for the violations. But as part of the settlement, the insurer also agreed to comply with a Corrective Action Plan to prevent future mischarged premiums, according to regulatory documents.
