How is “was using exams that were littered with SAT-like questions” discriminatory? You either have the intelligence to pass the test or you don’t. I fail to see any racial connection. It may appear to some that certain minorities CANNOT pass the test, just as some “whites” cannot. It is an EXAM!!! Study for it to pass or move to a profession that doesn’t give a rats @$$ how stupid you are.

“…the city must explain what has changed and why the need to appoint a few hundred rookie firefighters outweighs the need to avoid racial discrimination in municipal hiring…” Is this judge kidding? Has ability and performance become superfluous to hiring practices in favor of political correctness? I’m so glad the DOJ can find time in its busy schedule of avoiding suing the NBPP to sue NYC while they try to do something constructive for their city’s public safety. We are in deep Bandini if this is the way things are going to be from now on.

I have often wondered this myself. It’s as if they are saying that some people are not of equal intelligence, and that is an insult to everyone. How would you like to be told you can’t be judged on the regular test, you need the special one? I would be highly insulted.

If the test included sections like, “Exploiting Racial Grievances,” and, “Victimization for Fun and Profit,” no doubt these clowns woulda passed the test.

Reverse discrimination at its best! I went to public school with these same minorities, had the same teachers, studied the same material and took the same tests. If we learned the same things, went to the same school, and had the same teachers, why are they discriminated against and I’m not? Just because I am white? I had the same thing happen to me, had a test thrown out because not enough minorities passed it. The town had recruiters out, gave minorities special classes to help them pass the test, did everything they could to help them pass the same test I took yet they STILL threw the test out because not enough of them passed. It just proves that, YOU CAN LEAD A HORSE TO WATER BUT YOU CAN’T MAKE THEM DRINK!!!!

i find it hard to believe that we think that anything is more discrimanatory. the gov’t always tries to point things in a different light. if you remember, there was a lawsuit by whites for promotion based on a test that favored blacks. what are we coming to? we don’t know black and white? we can’t read? did the question have a double negative and that was supposed to make you think? if everyone is given the same test, then we need to all be able to answer the question. it was not based on your personal hygeine. i think we need to get back to basics. like the previous person mention, does it matter? if we are taught the same thing from the various teachers, then we should be able to pass these tests. we don’t discriminate because we were taught a different colored skin teacher. a teacher is a teacher and teach to the best of their ability. each of us have to do our part to learn and put that knowledge to good use. we just can’t through it out the window and think everyone else will take care of me. if that were the attitude, then we might as well all be on welfare. i am tired of this card being used all the time. our society needs to finally wake up and stop this grumbling.

Your absolutely right. The judge is saying that minorities are not as smart as whites, who at least in my case, had the same public teachers teaching them. If a politician came out and said that he would be hung by the media. Giving someone a job on the basis of ethnic background and not intelligence is just plain reverse discrimination. I KNOW BECAUSE THE FIRST FIRE DEPT TEST I TOOK WAS THROWN OUT FOR THE SAME REASON 20 YEARS AGO. The next test I refused to take. It was such a clear case of reverse discrimination. Thank god this argument was FINALLY won by the firefighters in New Haven, CT, BY THE SUPREME COURT!

And, frankly, I don’t give a rip what color or gender the firefighter who saves my home and family might be as long as they do the job that’s expected of them. But if I get some affirmative action incompetent who can’t do the job, then the city should be prepared to face litigation for this type of irresponsibility.

You know it! The city gets sued because “the tests were discrimintory” so they have to pass them, and then they can’t do the job as well, and get sued because they hired/promoted someone who didn’t know how to do the job properly.

The tests were made difficult to make sure that they get only the best working for them, not because they want to keep minorites and women out. If you fail a test, keep trying until you pass. Your gender or skin color doesn’t make a lick of difference. Heck, if I was oneof the so called minorites, I would be vastly offended that they made an easier test for me just because of the color of my skin. I would be of the mindset “What, you think that just because I am a minority that I am not as smart as the non-minorites that passed it?” Thats all the city is saying to them.

    Think about it.
