…what to do about those pesky pedestrians who cross the streets all willy-nilly no matter who has the right-of-way? I nearly got trampled in NYC more than a few times when I visited there a few years ago; and I thought LA people were impatient! Must be an East Coast thing…

Traffic and pedestrian signals in this city are regarded as “suggestions”. Pedestrians are hazards as they disregard oncoming traffic and signals. Most of the time they don’t look before crossing. More and more wear earbuds and are texting while walking. Maybe when they start ending up as roadkill they’ll get the message.

I think your both right, NYC pedestrians are always in a hurry and unless gates drop down to hold them back, they will still try to cross. Maybe NYC can give the money back to NYS to put into the budget for something that is really needed.
