Glad to see NJ has it’s priorities straight. Anything to bring another buck into the state. Never mind the crime, fraud, tax, and education problems, just keep those cars clean for our 90-days of winter.

You must be one of those lazy a$$es who can’t take an extra 60 seconds out of your busy day to clean off your car! It appears that common sense is not so common these days.

Last year it cost me $1100 to fix my hood when a plumber’s truck ice sheet flew off. Luckily it didn’t go thru the windshield & kill my Wife. This is a priority along with the graft, taxes & whatnot.

Get off the cell phone & clean your car off.

Did anyone read the bill? I’ve never seen a worse piece of trash written by anyone anywhere.

The law passed last October (that is October 2009 for those of you without an almanac).

Last winter season we had the most snow accumulation in one season in recorded history.

I saw a lot of cars, trucks, buses and trailers with mountains of snow on them and yet I never saw a single one pulled over or heard about a single ticket being issued.

This will, like most other laws here in NJ, be selectively inforced against those they want to target. They might as well have passed a law making illegal to snow in the state.

There was an innocent driver near Chicago last winter who was heading the opposite direction as a semi-truck on an underpass. The semi trailer’s roof was covered in ice……it flew off in sheets and rained down on the poor guy in the car going the other way. Not only damaged his car for thousands of dollars, but also went through his windshield and into his face, chest, and arms. He will never be the same, is scarred for life, and lucky to be alive. This is not a frivolous law or a waste of time

“They might as well have passed a law making illegal to snow in the state”.

It is, they just don’t enforce it.

It is legal in NJ (for officials) to rape the taxpayer apparently.

People complain about their lives being over-regulated by government but they invite it by not using common sense or taking a time to consider others who share the road with them by clearing snow and ice off their vehicles. I’ve observed that this is especially true of SUV and van drivers, yet all it takes is a long handled brush and a few minutes to do so. I own an SUV and I always clear the snow off my vehicle, including the roof. As for enforcement, the fines are too low and if police won’t make the stops necessary to get the message across, then it might as well not have been passed because it will have no teeth. As some posters indicate, this can be a life and death issue for some, yet it is so simple to prevent. We can all easily become victims of people who just don’t care enough about others – like those who don’t bother to clear their cars of snow and ice, or stop at stop signs, or keep their headlamps on high beam when travelling in traffic or on well-lit roads.

If people are so upset about governmental intervention in their lives, they should amend their behavior. Otherwise they are just asking for intervention.

I wish they would implement this in Michigan. I was terrified driving to work the other day that I was going to be rear-ended by an idiot behind me who had not scraped the frost off his windshield. He was driving looking through a tiny hole that was starting to defrost. Couple that with some sunshine and someone innocent person’s going to get nailed! I can hardly wait until the snowfall and distracted drivers get on the roads!

Are you sure the car wasn’t driving BEHIND the semi? Given the description, it sounds more likely that was the case; if the ice blew off as the car and truck passed each other it would’ve hit the ground behind the car…

I distinctly remember this newscast. They were going in opposite directions. Authorities believe that the bridge/overpass that they were traveling under caused the semi’s ice to break loose due to the change in air pressure in the small space between the roof of the trailer and the bottom of the underpass. It came down on the car as it passed the truck.

After I posted my response earlier, I considered that as a possibility…thanks for clarifying!

Considerationn of others should be on everyone’s mind all the time. If we could just imagine the world we could live in. It comes to no surprise that our society has become so self centered that we have to pass yet another law to take action against those who don’t seem to care about anyone but themselves. Good job America! Lets see how many things we CAN do by the end of 2011.
