So how can they prove that is where their bedbugs came from? Did those particular bedbugs have painted toenails, an appetite for the fanciest of foods, and tiny jewelry that make them “Waldorf” bedbugs?

If they did get them in NY then the seats on the plane they flew home on have them to.

It’s not a coincidence that the “bedbug outbreak” occurred shortly after Courtney Love checked into the Waldorf…and by the way, they weren’t bedbugs.

It’s true…Bedbug infestation is in this country is approaching the likes of the Locust swarm of the 1900’s if we don’t do something about it. Hotel’s? If the word gets out there are bedbugs, true or not, your business is down.
Bring your DDT and never mind the health hazard.

To be liable, the hotel would have had to have notice of the condition, then fail to remedy it. The article doesn’t say whether these people flew, or drove to NYC. If they drove, they would have had to have stayed in another hotel enroute and on their return. If they visited anyplace in NYC where they were sitting in upholstered seats, they could have picked them up there. This is a frivoulous suit and I’d like to see the Waldorff file a counter-complaint for libel and demand attorney fees.

I have now heard it all. If you go to a foreign country and contract a disease or an illness you are on your own.If you go to Mexico and get ill you just have to suck it up. Same with this. This is why our courts systems are so full. These people need to get a real life and cut the crap. There are always going to be incidents when you are on vacation. Deal with it and quit wasting the courts time and money.

The number of locations to pick up bedbugs is an enormous list. If they bought anything along the way, in any store, as mentioned already, sitting on furniture, in the baggage area their bags touch another) at the airport, in a restaurant, on a bus (city or greyhound), in a taxi…. etc, etc.
Unless they have a report from someone qualified the judge should count it as frivilous….

Maybe corrupt Delaware Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart stayed in that room before these people. Her house is filthy. She doesn’t believe in regular showers, just pours perfume on herself. Dirty inside and out.

sounds to me like they had an expensive bedbug hunt. they wanted to blame someone else for the bedbugs they already had in their home. they wanted someone else to pay for the fumigation and out of pocket expenses to have lived outside of the home. you know that the waldorf keeps a clean house and definately would check for any wrong doings. i bet the previous so-called bedbuggers also wanted money.

    @ Dugan…

While I completely agree this seems pretty frivilous (especially the part about community ostracization), your statement about liabiilty is not correct. They would not have to have proper notice and then do nothing about it. That could result in a punitive damages situation, but the liability is not that stringent.

People on this site seem to forget that if you have a business, home, vacant land, etc. you can be held liabile even if you have done nothing wrong. For example, if you operate a restaurant, the floor is clean and not wet, and a person slips and falls, you are many times going to pay.

I know of one large resort that has dogs that patrol the halls looking for the little offenders. That dog and handler may look like a guest in a pet friendly establishment, but it an employee just working for food.
