After 4 15 and 16 year olds (and one 15 year old in critical condition) were killed in an auto accident this past week in Griswold, CT, this article is no longer accurate. The driver, a 16 year old, unlicensed, but permitted driver, lost control of the vehicle and killed himself and 3 of the 4 passengers in the car with him. Tougher driving rules or not, 16 year olds are too young to be driving!! They do not have the thought capacity to be able to make the type of judgements that are needed..

As far as I can tell 2010 is not over yet & the article states statistics from 2009 & 2008. Appears accurate to me.

…Democratic State Rep. Antonio Guerrera tells The Hartford Courant teens these days are “more serious” behind the wheel… REALLY??? I don’t think so.

The point I was making is 16 year olds are not old enough for the responsiblity of driving.

The law passed in 2008 and the statistics are for one year so they are not relevant. As for 2010, we know of one crash, (the article points to fatal crashes, not number of fatalities).

I think some of the reduction noted for 2009 may be that fewer licensed teens had cars because the econony made it less likely that the parents would buy a car when the car companies were in trouble and their jobs were in jeopardy.

Once they can point to at least 5 years of statistics, they can pontificate about how right they were.
