Fees for Emergency Response in ANY State is ridiculous. State Legislators and the governors of each state can not spend within their revenues. The Public will NOT pay AGAIN for services that property taxes and income taxes actually DO pay for NOW.
This is typical govt bookkeeping. If we spend more than we liberally project as incoming revenues, we will just stick it to the taxpayer one way or another.
This has GOT to stop on the State level as well as the Federal level.
This is a joke. Can any of Congress actually balance their own checkbooks? They clearly can not balance the Fed budget. They should all be fired unless the budget is CUT until it balances using the PRIOR year revenue numbers. that way, any surplus is a win. Any decrease causes MORE spending cuts. We can not continue to provide benefits to everyone who can navigate the forms the govt provides for aid to dependent mothers, welfare, illegals get free money for breathing. STOP STOP STOP!

Tell all mothers if you have sex, the baby is ON YOU. Why should I have to pay for my kids and idiots kids too??

    Keep your knees together!

Leave it to NY to invent yet another tax to impose upon their citizens. Instead of cutting spending and reigning in their union labor on benefits/pensions, they keep raising taxes even though taxes already support Police and Fire Departments. Bloomberg is an idiot and needs to be replaced. No wonder NY is losing population and businesses. Come to Texas and we will treat you right.

I always thought that the insurance company obligation was to provide coverage for all sums that they are legally obligated to pay – including any claims expense. As a former public official who was used to dealing with diminishing budgets, I don’t think that this expense is unwarranted.
We’re starting to get very good at reducing our claim expenses and disappointing our clients.

The Bloomberg Administration says it will charge insurance companies this new fee (which as the article correctly indicates is not a covered loss). Well, who do they think ends up paying it? Like all politicians, they seem to forget (or think we’re too dumb to realize) that everything charged to business, including their taxes, is ultimately paid for by the consumer, in addition to theeir own taxes.

You know, this really isn’t unfair. The policies simply need to be modified to include coverage for such items in the supplementary payments section, and the fees for such municipal services need to be limited to reasonable amounts. Fire department service fees always seemed unfair since fires are often accidental. But when one car crashes into another (or several, or buildings, etc.) at least one person is usually to blame. It is not unreasonable that the person at fault bear the cost that the community faces in providing police and fire support to clean up such messes. My opinion, yours may differ.

Fees for fire department services are not new. They are billed to the vehicle owner or the driver to cover the costs incurred for the response. It is ussually covered under the PD coverage since it is the direct result of an accident.

As far as the city billing insurers, that is not covered since it would amount to a city tax and the city lacks authority to regulate and tax insurance carriers; that is reserved to the state.

this is ridiculous, afterall, we already pay for these services as said through our own property taxes. the budgets needs to be balanced and reduced. sounds to me like the state budgets are going to be like the federal one and go huge in debt! if some of the legislators would actually reduce their salary they this would help. many companies are finding ways to make their company more efficient to make their dollars stretch! so state and fed’s become like businesses and get more effecient to save money…
