this will never happen. do you remember the red light cameras? they were supposed to save thousands of live but the local governments got rid of them because they were loosing $$$! The US takes in 1000000s a year in DUI fines and it helps judges get elected.

We have red light camera’s in PA and they work great. In fact there is an article about them in this version of the journal. I wonder how many alcoholics will buy cars with this technology? Will it be mandatory in all cars or just some/ Will those with a drinking problem find a car without this technology on purpose to avoid getting caught.

I for one would like to see this technology explored and if it could be perfected it could not only save lives but save you, the driver, the fines, time, embarrassment and other things that come with a DUI. There are many other things law enforcement could be doing with their time if they were no longer having to deal with drunk drivers. Safety is key. I would rather be delayed by my car than to hit someone after drinking when my judgement may not be at it’s best. It can’t hurt to explore this and try it out.

My fear is that it would give people confidence to drive when they are legally able but not physically. A false sense of security, if you will. Accuracy would be majorily important.

Idea sounds OK, but I think it might cause more problems than it solves. Judges can already make convicted DWI drivers get a devise installed in their vehicle to do this. For those who only have one or 2 drinks it may be too sensitive and what if you are DD for friends who have been drinking and the smell does not let you start the car.
The ones who need it most, won’t buy a new car with it on.
