Rural PA, trailer park, gasoline and a stun gun – wanna bet Levi had just finished a growler of PBR and was wearing a tank top?

Before stun guns, they would have used mace; it was effective in subduing most people but a reliance on newer technology rather than common sense on thr part of police led to an unfortunate outcome.

I disagree. Before stun guns they’d probably have shot him if he moved an arm in any direction. They guy was ready to torch himself and anyone around him. That would have been considered a threat to the officers. Instead, he still committed suicide by cop except he didn’t get a quick bullet. Horrible mistake by the cop who thought he was doing the right thing. Shame on Daddy for wanting to blame anyone other than his son.

In 16 years of law enforcement prior to getting in the insurance industry, mace almost never worked. All it would do is p*ss people off more. In my time, they got smacked with a flashlight.

I’m going to assume if the kid soaked himself in gasoline, the scent of gas around him would be rather strong. In that environment, what kind of dumba$$ would use a device that generates an electronic spark??? Heck, gas stations post warnings to turn off cell phones when getting gas!

The kid’s death is unfortunate, but he died due a lack of common sense on the part of an individual who walks around with a loaded gun. That’s scary.

Think about it Franklin, the Attorney General of the USA just mandated that candidates for being a policemen only have to fail a test to become a cop now. Then ask yourself your question again.

He died because he soaked himself in gasoline. It’s his own damned fault.

There’s obviously more to this story than someone calls cops because a redneck hit his girlfriend, redneck pours gas on himself and cops shoot stun gun, redneck is toast. Come On Man…how bout redneck runs toward police or redneck tries to gain entrance to girlfriends trailer, or redneck is freakin’ out shouting threats to.
Does anyone really believe what’s in the press including this gem?

If the Father witnessed the gruesome death of this toasted redneck, he can put in his own claim for suffering like they allow in Michigan now.

If he was soaked in gasoline, it sounds like he absolutely was a threat to not only the officers, but anyone else in the home. You don’t pour gasoline on yourself unless you’re willing to light a match.

The police dept has the right to use a stun gun. They don’t give up this right because some fool douses himself in gasoline. We weren’t there and don’t know how much of a threat he was to police, but given he had attacked his wife and soaked himself in gas, I think it’s fair to say he wasn’t standing there having a civil debate with authorities. If the officer needed the stun gun to protect himself, he still has the right to use it. Perhaps he should have used his billy club (if they still have those) but if forced to make a split second decision, you can’t fault them for relying on their training.
