This story is not shocking. The criminals were already carrying their concealed weapons into bars. The only difference now is that the law-abiding citizen no longer is a sitting duck in a restaurant or going to/from a restaurant by being disarmed.

    Common sense.

I live in New York City. I’ve never carried a gun anywhere and have never once in my life felt like a “sitting duck.” Then again, I’m not a paranoid right wing sociopath who thinks everyone is out to get me. Guns and alcohol don’t mix. Full stop.

Gee, you sure do seem to come across as an open-minded individual. Gladly, our rights are not determined by whatever you feel is appropriate for others to do. To act as if crime doesn’t happen coming and going from restaurants is naive. The great thing about our country is that some of us can choose to be prepared and some, like you, can walk around with your stereotypes and insults.

One should try to read the laws…the laws stipulate that those who are consuming adult beverages can’t carry their firearms. Clue to you…criminals are going to disobey that law anyway, and always have, so you are only disarming the “good guys.”

You may not feel like a sitting duck, but you are a sitting duck if you have no way to defend yourself, your insults notwithstanding.

Good point…The gun laws in NYC are among the strongest in the country. Just ask Plaxico.

Wow, another weekend of violence in New York, with 47 people shot over the weekend. Of course, I’m sure the “good guys” didn’t feel like sitting ducks while apparently criminals (yet again) disobeyed the stringent New York gun laws. I trust everyone feels good about themselves for banning guns and only if we passed more bans this sort of stuff wouldn’t happen.

Wisconsin just passed a concealed carry law which will allow in part, a person to carry a concealed weapon in an establishment that serves alcohol as long a the person doesn’t drink. I’m not particually enamoured of this proviison in the law. Alcohol and firearms are not a good combination. I think the penalty for violation of the law is a $50 dollar fine. I would have preferred a higher fine along with loss of CCW permit. I hope that the results in WI mirror VA.

That normal people go to restaurants, whether or not they carry concealed firearms, just to enjoy a meal and a night out. Drugs & alcohol don’t mix with a great many things, but here it is in print! Glad to see it published.

Well, if we are going to suspend any individuals’ constitutional rights while they are consuming alcoholic beverages I think we can all agree that freedom of speech should be the FIRST in line. Those carrying concealed weapons cause far fewer problems in bars than loudmouth drunks.

In my younger days I would have agreed that guns cause crime. However, after visiting the safest country in the world – Switzerland, I changed my mind. It seems that military service is mandatory for every male up to mid 40’s (use to not have an age limit) and unlike here, they take their weapons home. As my Swiss cousin put it “would anyone in their right mind break into a home knowing that there was an automatic weapon and someone trained to kill holding it?”. Maybe we need to take a look at what actually works and stop holding onto fantasy.
