    In Maryland the State sales tax was originally enacted as a means to pay for the construction of the bay bridge. When it was subsequently raised it was for construction of the second span. Now it just pours into the general fund, has been increased and expanded and the State is still broke. In fact, they just raised the toll on the bay bridge. It’s pathetic, intolerable, criminal mismanagement.

    I agree, tax laws are often passed and then abused, and it is the same whether they are new taxes or tax cuts. Another example is the Bush tax cuts that only passed because Republicans agreed that they would expire in 2010. But they reneged on that one too.
