This would be really sad if the carriage rides are banned. Regulate the owners regarding care of the horses and hours worked (yes I would agree), but ban the experience – hope not.
Hey, if Canadian tourist Fran Hill thinks they should stay, well that’s good enough for me. If you can’t trust the opinion of Canadian tourist Fran Hill, who can you trust?
The SUV driver caused the accident, not the carriage horse or driver. I am tired of anti-carriage horse animal rights activists demanding that carriages be banned in NYC and elswhere everytime an incompetent, reckless or inattentive MOTORist causes a traffic accident that involves a horse-drawn carriage.
If motor vehicle drivers are the main people causing accidents, then they need to be dealt with according to the law. Would these same people calling for a ban on carriages be demanding a ban on pedestrians, pedicabs, or minivans had this driver hit one of them? I think NOT.
Better idea? I say ban SUV’s from NYC altogether. Aren’t they supposed to be for Off-Road in the first place? Better suited to drive out on Montauk point than in town, IMO.
Why don’t they just ban SUVs instead? That won’t affect the livelihoods of many employed by Horse & Buggy rides.

So if carriage rides are banned due to the danger to horses, will the NYPD discontinue their mounted patrol since horses are such sensitive animals?
And what about the Amish visitors????
Not to worry about the Amish. After all they arrived in NYC in their own horse and buggy.

Were they able to repair the horse or did they have to replace it with this years model since they had the Keeper Policy on the horse?
